Do you tip in restaurants?

I always tip at a restaurant to which I plan to return. After all, it removes the risk of waiter/ress 'spittle' entering the food chain.I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.
I love my job1 -
As someone who’s being paid, I would looking to be more generous to the hospitality industry, but of course It depends on service and right now for me right now that includes social distancing, masks, gloves or hand hygiene, but more than ever I think good staff deserve a reward.0

I love eating out when there's no coronavirus and when there is no pandemic I DO tip and I tip generously too because not everyone does and I just think my servers, wherever I am, deserve it. Even if their service hasn't been top notch. I've done that job myself before and I know servers just don't get good pay. I hate when people say they don't tip or won't tip because I just never understand. Why be so mean? Get your wallets out! If you can afford to eat out, you can afford to tip. Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. If there is service charge usually not. But sometimes a cash tip if the waiter/waitress was really helpful or kind.0

Why don't you do the same for your delivery driver? Or your bus driver? Or your supermarket cashier? Why stop there. What about the warehouse staff, who managed to transport your shopping to the shop floor. Or the cleaner who made sure you didn't slip on that spillage in aisle 23?

I don't. I probably should but where does it end? Really the chef should get the tips for making the food rather than bringing the plate to the table.0

Tipping is one of the most dumbest traditions in retail and I consider it a throwback to an era when it reinforced class differences. The fact its not adopted consistently across all industries shows its a farce and often used to suppress wages of some of the lowest paid people in society. If employers paid their staff properly, tipping should be unnecessary, after all you are paying a premium for eating out!0

Have a nice day.0 -
And yet you'll likely get abuse for giving a tip in certain countries where it is considered offensive. Really reinforces my point.
Not the only stupid custom shared with USA. Black Friday is another!0
