Do you tip in restaurants?

Agree a tip is for service OVER the norm, which is why I think a service charge should never be added automatically - service is not going to always be over the norm. The process of requesting it to be removed is inherently awkward and makes the experience even worse. IMO they should be outlawed, as its non-transparent.

You could lobby your MP if you think the practice should be outlawed…
Being of the opinion that something is wrong is not going to change anything.
Personally, if a service charge is added and I don't want to tip or I want to tip in cash or want to tip a different amount, I'd just smile and ask for it to removed.
But I think all this has been said before.
