The pre-paid Mastercard, Pockit is doing it right at least for existing card holders who will have the choice to opt-in for a contactless card and approve a payment of 99p for the new card. I assume that those who don't opt-in will stay with their non-contactless card. Pockit will be emailing existing card holders with info. Don't know at this time about new applicants though.

Just to update: HSBC have sent me a "no contactless" debit card. They were very straightforward when I requested it, and it arrived 3 days later. I have been unable to find a credit card which offers a contactless-free card. Those which do not currently offer the facility say they will roll it out shortly. I mostly use my credit card online so have stopped carrying it about - it lived in a small card wallet with membership and library cards for emergencies. Had I realised the contactless function worked without my prior approval it would not have lived in there. I do not treat my family's library and museum membership cards and swimming discount tickets in the same way as cash and usable cards.
I don't particularly care that any liability is a maximum of £30 a time. It takes the same amount of time to sort out whether it is £30 or £3000 and to be honest a large sum missing from my account is much sooner spotted. I prefer to spend a few extra seconds on making a payment in order to have more time to spend on my young family. On a mission.0 -
Bank of Scotland got me my new card without contactless when I asked for it 2 weeks ago - came very quickly as I do not wish to use contactless.Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

I'm a new applicant and I was sent a contactless card. My top up seems to have gone missing though so I would steer clear of them unless you like throwing money into a black hole. They are also run on a shoestring and have almost no customer service provision.0 -

Maybe it's a collector's item
Pockit haven't started rolling them out yet
But that may be delayed: According to an email sent to all cardholders they are having problems with one of their "partners" and are advising cardholders to avoid topping up until that's fixed. Maybe it's to do with the upcoming contactless functionality. But my top-up today went through without any problems. 0 -
Pockit is pre-pay card though, so your losses are limited to whatever balance you have.
I remember using Visa Cash though as money was loaded to your card, you lost it if you lost your card! Pockit isn't covered by any Financial Compensation Scheme, so would you get any money back from fraudulent use, whether contactless or otherwise.0
