  • Got my bills today for three different contract phones from different providers. Results as follows...
    • O2 Direct - Charged for calls made to 07978 xxxxxx numbers.
    • O2 Carphonewarehouse - Did not charge for calls made but now get a Network Busy error when trying to use this number for the last week or so. Dunno if it is only me getting this error or if it is actually affecting anybody else...
    • Orange - Did not charge for calls made to this number so am planning to continue to use this for the forseeable future. :D
  • Just to clear a few things up on this particular number 07978555555 which can be used for dialling from your mobile to a India for eample (sorry, not sure which other countries it can be used for). On my O2 Carphone Warehouse bill I have not been charged. According to a friend who works for O2 CPW he has seen accounts where customers have not been charged.
However, you MAY be charged, so bear that in mind.
As it is in the form of a mobile number it should come out of your free minutes on ALL networks. But as before, you MAY be charged.
Best thing to do is to use it to make 2-3 minute calls and register for on-line billing to see if you have been charged for it....this may give you an idea however it is at your own risk if you go 'all-out' on it.
I have not been charged on O2 CPW....User Beware.....Use cautiously and keep an eye on your bill charges and take it from there. Hope this helps....
  • My gf using O2 for CPW.. she tested this number to call me (malaysia) and tested for 2min.

The result is her minutes doesnt minus (still got 600) and got extra changes ~0.60p.

This testing was done on 2 Oct and verified on 4 Oct. But i still not sure whether its really got charges.

Someone else O2 with CPW ... might to verify this again?

See my quote at #33 above. Have tried with a O2 carphonewarehouse contract and did not have any charges applied to my bill.

Having said that I cannot dial the number anymore, keep getting a "Network Busy" error all the time.
  • Hi

It works for me... it doesn't work for me... will it work for me??

Why don't you have a look here
    http://www.o2.co.uk/specialnumbers

other network users will have to find a similar page on their network provider's website.

If you have subsequently been charged for a the 079 number or any other number that dosn't appear on that list, then you should contact o2 and refer them to their website.

  • Hi guys & gals,

Just found this on Orange website...

Tariff Terms and Conditions changes - effective from 15 October 2007

Orange has updated its terms and conditions for call forward services. Calls to these services are not included in the inclusive minutes bundle and include calls to 07, 070, 08 and 09 numbers. These calls may be charged to a maximum of 20p per minute, 55p per minute, 55p per minute and £1.70 per minute or per call respectively. This change will take effect from 15 December 2007 and are applicable to ALL existing Orange tariffs, both those that are currently available and all tariffs that are no longer available for sale.

Customers who use call forwarding services with numbers beginning with 078730, 079785 and 078225 should note that these changes apply to these numbers from 15 December 2007.

    http://www1.orange.co.uk/termsupdate/

Looks like we have until December 15th 2007 to abuse the privelege.

P.S. I get 2550 any network, any time & unlimited texts monthly for £17.50 per month. (Yes, 2550:dance: with orange on 18 month contract)
