My wife didn't really care what the ring looked like, past it being white gold - she said as long as it came from me it didn't matter.

    It was £125.
    I totally agree.

I haven't an engagement ring though my husband swears blind that a ring he gave me early on in our relationship (over 31 years ago now) counts as one, even though he hadn't proposed!

I now wear my mothers ring which has sentimental value and is very pretty.

However, when it came to buying a wedding band I went in thinking we were buying a plain gold band (but I think back then it was about £20 and hubby bucked at paying such a small amount) so I ended up with one studded with tiny diamonds.

Bearing in mind you usually wear your wedding ring all the time and an engagement ring occasionally (at least in my case) I am happy we spent the extra on the diamond wedding band, it still looks great after all this time.

So my point is maybe consider spending a bit more money on a wedding band as you are more likely to wear it more.
Growing old is unavoidable. However, growing up is still optional.

I wasn't really fussed. At the end of the day it mattered more that he picked something for me than the price tag. I know mine didn't cost all that much but I love it and funnily enough not a ring I would of picked (black diamond) kind of makes what i would of imagined I wanted boring! I'm also very funny about expensive things, I couldn't bare walking around with something expensive worrying I would loose it!

I've got a jewellery phobia so hubby bought me a bike instead, which cost £350 and got nicked a few months later.

.... and I've got a love for jewellery. My husband knew it when he proposed. He knew which jeweller I would want to make it and that it was going to cost a lot. Before I'm flamed as a money-grabbing, materialistic cow - he paid half the cost when we designed and commissioned it and I paid the other half when I collected it a couple of months later. I've worn it every day for nearly 11 years and it works out at the price of a Starbucks a day, but gives me more enjoyment by far.

Mine cost £52 pounds 29 years ago, less than a week's wages for my partner at the time....blimey that makes me feel old!

To be honest, I would be too scared to wear anything much over £100 on my hand, I would be paranoid about losing it. To me, anything over that mark is just a waste and money that could be better spent elsewhere (note - for me, we are all different!)

Actually, I probably wouldn't wear one anyway, got out of the habit when the children arrived as they kept catching on things and then when I tried again when they were older, they didn't agree with me (very few metals next to my skin do, even very good quality ones).
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

I got engaged when I was 16 and had a real tacky ring. It was gold and diamond, and cost a couple of hundred quid- my boyfriend at the time had been badly injured in a road accident a couple of years before and bought me it when he got his compo payment. It was nasty though :rotfl: a real 16 year old choice :rotfl:
My second one was my favourite so far- it was beautiful- white gold with a princess cut diamond and cost £150, my ex bought it out of his student loan payment :D I think it was unlucky though, it was second hand when I bought it and when ex and I broke up I sold it back to the jeweller's where it had come from.
My third engagement ring was gold with a small flower shaped diamond cluster, it was new and came from the same jeweller's as my previous one. It cost about £100 which was about a day's wages to my boyfriend at the time, it was just meant to be temporary but we broke up before he could get me a better one.
OH and I aren't engaged but he's bought me two rings now that I wear as a sign of commitment. He bought me a silver Claddagh ring with a purple stone a couple of years ago from a tray of junk silver in a pawn shop in Penzance for a fiver which I have been wearing- he offered me a better one but I loved that one. However when I put weight on it was too small so when we went to Dublin last month he bought me another one with a green stone and cubic zirconias also in silver that cost him a huge 50 Euro :D about 3 hours wages for him :rotfl: I love it though, it's gorgeous and it reflects both mine and OH's heritages. I saw one I absolutely loved but he wouldn't let me have it as it was reduced to 20 Euro :rotfl: I still wear the original ring he got me on the chain with my crucifix.
