I nearly died of shame this week, the man next door wouldn't let me carry the parcel into the house (he said it was too heavy, bless) so he brought it in, and instead of just leaving it in the hall, he decided to stick his head in the living room (not too bad) and the back room which currently holds the dismembered carcass of DS3s cabin bed, DS4s mattress which was on its way to the tip, plus all the assorted rubbish, monitors, sewing machines and xboxes, and tables, and basically is the dumping ground until I do a tip run.
He looked shocked, squeaked, and left.
One of the plasterers I had in, when we first moved in, told me to just accept, if we were doing it ourselves, bit by bit, that one room will always be the dumping ground. One room where all the bits for jobs that are not finished get put, that bits for jobs not started are put, where things that you find that you know will come in handy will live in there, and not to worry about that one room.
Otherwise the mess will drive you mad. The mess, and bits of wood, and furniture and stuff for projects, will get smaller as you go through the house, just concentrate on getting one single room finished, then move on to the next one, and at some point it all comes together and there is just enough to fit in a shed, and at that point you get it out of the house and finish the last room.
Obviously the man next door (who is only renting a room in a shared house and thus does no diy or renovations) did not know that.
greenbee - buy two wardrobes! Give yourself a deadline
:xmastree: or it will be that one and still not done.
Why oh why does 1KEA still not do online ordering? I know they make money on impulse buys, but still, imagine going and looking and planning and buying your impulse stuff (and meatballs - we had the veggie ones for lunch today) then just ordering the wardrobes/ sofas/ kitchen units from home with a cup of tea and a biscuit. You have to pay delivery anyway in store, so what is the difference? Why not just get with it and have onine 1KEA ordering and, for posh people, have a putting up option, to hire a man/woman to put it up and put it where you want.
Then you could get your wardrobes greenbee. From the comfort of your living room, or bedroom, or even, god forbid, bathroom (!).
All I can advise is to set a date and just do it. If you can afford it. The thought of these things is usually worse than the actual doing of the thing. And then you wonder why you did not just bite the bullet and do it in the first place.
DH is rather smitten by big blue sofas in 1KEA. He wants blue (teal) sofas and yellow armchairs (cos he knows it will do my head in) so I am going to let him. He has barely chosen anything for the house. It was nice to see him interested.
The sofas are called Grevie and the chairs are called Strandmon. He loves bright colours.
I like black, dark black, deep black and sometimes, a darker charcoal .
When I have builders to herd, I will be able to sympathise with you.
I am putting them off until 2019, which will be the year of the builder (and then we will move:rotfl:)4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

My problem is that I don't like most of the wardrobes I find
But have two from cotswold in the basked at the moment. I've found a nicer (and therefore more expensive...) reclaimed wood one, so need to make a decision. I also find it hard looking at stuff on line, but my work schedule (particularly the travel) makes it difficult to go and look at actual stuff.
Overall the chaos is slowly improving as most of the building work is done. Which means working on getting the furniture sorted. I'll have lots of stuff that doesn't work with this house to get rid of at some point, but luckily friends are upsizing to somewhere they'll be using to generate passive income via airbnb and eventually do b&b. So hopefully they'll buy some of it from me!
Ikea do have online ordering - I've done it before. But oddly not for all products. As far as sofas go, I thorough recommend beige. Doesn't show the dirt too badly and you can accessorise with cushions to change the look. This is the same theory as my 'dirty floor' colour tiles in the utility and kitchen.0 -
Fingers crossed for the friends buying your unwanted furniture. I still have a pine dining table and 4 chairs to get rid of. It is sitting in the back room It needs to go, and I have this idea I will sand and oil it and sell it, but I really know i will end up giving it away to someone as a project. But I have had it for 14 years!! It was the first thing I bought in our first house. It needs to go to someone who will use it though.
Pick a wardrobe greenbee! You have the two to choose from, flip a coin if needs be. Then if you are disappointed, choose the other one! The clothes need to be in a wardrobe, it will clean up two whole rooms, or they will get eaten by moths, or covered in more dust, and then you will end up having to wash everything and dry everything and possibly have to plug in an i.r.o.n. (shhh!). Or you will come home and find your builders trying on your clothes. It is just tempting fate. Like Goldilocks.
Beige would not work for us, any ink colour is fine though!
Or buy both and use one to store baking trays in!4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Sounds like you need a nice dark tartan sofa
I'm going to go with the cheaper wardrobe as it can always move into the kids' room (which I hope will also be a sewing room when I'm done, as now the kids are older they don't stay as often, although that may also be due to me not having a room for them!) if I change my mind. I was tempted to order both, but a. I've been doing rather a lot of spending recently and b. I don't have space at the moment.
Part of the problem is that most of my furniture is inherited. Technically antiques but very battered with lots of dents, ring marks, broken trim/veneer etc. But I like the fact that it is all mismatched and imperfect. Saves me worrying about it...
At some point I need to buy some more table lamps too. I get slightly depressed by how much stuff I still need while still trying to get rid of it. I know I also need some cushion innards (4 that are flat as tissues, 5 that have no insides and I'm sure there are more cushion covers somewhere) but need to measure. Most of them are used outside in the garden to make the benches more comfy. They can probably wait till next year as they take up space!
ETA - Cheap wardrobes ordered (one very small to give me full-length hanging in my bedroom) for delivery next Saturday. £6.23 cashback. Which nearly covers the saturday delivery1 -
Perhaps you could get cream sofas foxholes and as they get covered in varying shades of ink tell people you have the bespoke Pollock / Picasso cover range.
Oddly enough we've just bought teal colour sodas from the big blue and yellow box (different range to the ones Mr F0xh0les has chosen). If you saw my wardrobe you'd see how much I love grey...grey...and more grey. We also have a grey feature wall in the living room so had planned on grey sofas. The teal really gives the room a lift, so hopefully you'll grow to like them a bit more once they're in situ.
Ps apologies for mis understanding on the headboard...yes that is remarkably useless not including something quite so crucial.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

See, you knew which you were getting!
Will def ask for tips about chasing builders next year.
At least you can put the cushions in your new wardrobe until you get innards. I have 4 in the cupboard of convenience I need to make covers for (given to me by an old lady who thought she would use them but never got round to it) It will cost nothing as I have everything I need to finish the job .... except the motivation.
Another Sunday evening, 8pm and the dryer is going, the washer is going, the kids started doing their homework 30 minutes before going to bed. I hate this so much . I simply do not understand why they do not do their homework first, and then enjoy the weekend. They are so not like me. Their bedrooms are still a mess, even though I sent them up there to tidy them. Only DS2 bothered (yeah DS2!!) he is 14 on Thursday. Hoping he is going to start behaving himself. Had a strange but nice chat about his' options'. He is talking about higher maths, triple science, food tech, product design... and PE.
He wants to choose FT and PD and PE because they are 'easy subjects' but then combines them with triple science and higher maths. Capable but lazy...... honestly, that boy!
Do you have lists greenbee? Lists of what you need to buy and what you want to go out the door? I have started to put my lists into smaller -what I want done by the end of THIS month lists. It is somehow making things happen quicker.
I asked DH if I fell under a bus tomorrow how long would it take him to get rid of my stuff, he said maybe 10 years? maybe 15. Maybe never.
I told him I would have a skip outside the house the day after his funeral, and probably a bonfire too, with marshmallows.
We are so different! It honestly should not work, but it does.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

I have lists everywhere... work lists, house lists, garden lists, paperwork lists, lists for builders. Occasionally something gets done off one of them.
I have ironed (I usually outsource, but the neighbour who does it is having an op on her hand so can't do it), put away, done more laundry, moved a chest of drawers from the hall into the spare room (which will confuse me as it has outdoor stuff in it) and got my breakfast ready. I need to go to bed and work out what laundry I have to do tomorrow as I'll need to pack tomorrow for another week away for work.
Moving the CoD means a. I don't need to get another bedside table for a bit and b. I can move a couple of things around downstairs and bring a small side table in from the garage.
I need to do a tip run at some point. And get my brother over with the van & trailer to remove the second-hand greenhouse that he brought over months ago as I'm clearly not going to have time to either put it together or use it..
I really, really MUST call the builder tomorrow. In theory I could have everything finished by the end of the year, although that would mean I'd be very, very broke. But it would be done.1 -
Sounds like a deadline to me!
Tell the builder you want it done by :xmastree:

I need the quote first! But will call him today and try to get him to commit to a date for the next lot of work.1

greenbee Have you tried offering the green house on Freegle or the local selling pages on Facebook for free or a nominal amount? If it's already dismantled then someone is bound to want it and it will save you a trip to the tip - plus save on something that is usable going to landfill.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16
