I have just returned from an open evening at DS1 & 2s school, for the new intake next year of new yr 7 kids. Wow.

The headmaster was so rude to me, and basically said it is not the best school but we are what we are because of the pupils, and if I don't like it, don't send my kids there. There is more to success than good grades.

Wow. DS1 who has been at the school for the last 3 years had no idea who the dude was. So I am discounting him, as he obviously is the titular head, and he is kept away from the students. He should also be kept away from the parents IMHO. Twonk. Will see if I meet him again at the year 11 parents evening next week. He is one of those who are more interested in raising the bottom 1/3 to any attainment at all, rather than trying to raise the middle upwards, or the top further. The top can take care of themselves. Wow. And I did not say anything inflamatory or rude. I was politeness personified. DS1 is very unimpressed by his attitude.
Was that man really that rude to you? What is his problem? Did you see the look he just gave you?

Oh well. I only asked if they had a date for an OFSTED inspection. He just went off on one about results not being about grades, and he didn't care if i didn't send my kids there, there were other schools if that was all I cared about.

On the plus side, DS1s English and Maths teachers have both raised his expected grade to 9 next year. Can't be due to the school then, according to the head, so it must be all my work:rotfl:

So that was the fun and games tonight. Some people really do take themselves too seriously:rotfl:. Hopefully we won't be here then. But i have been in the position of waiting to sell a house and having to send DS1 to a secondary school I knew full well he was only going to be at for 10 weeks. I have told him it is character building.

Right, I have a horrible sore throat. Having a 'lemon flavoured paracetamol based medicinal drink' TM. and going to bed.

Glad I could be of service :rotfl:

Head sounds like a numpty. To be honest I'm sick of all the secondary school talk already for mine and they've only just started in KS2 [eye roll]

Had to do a medicine run. The two eldest seem to have recovered from the sore throat within 48 hours. I have developed a cough and sore throat, so hit the l-f-p-b-drinks, bought another 2 boxes of it on the way back from dropping them at school

Dropped DH at train station before 7.30 as he is on his way to a conference type thing in York. Won't be back before 10.30pm. Long day with plenty of train travel.

Also found all the boxes of tissues, so will put one beside each bed. In preparation for coughmageddon. Still claiming a NSD as it is medicinal.

I have just had a text to say DS3s 9 cube unit is being delivered today. Before 8pm. Shall we take bets on whether they try and deliver between 2.30 and 3.30, the only time of the day the house will be empty? Strangely, the headboard for DS1 was also at the delivery warehouse on the same day, but is not out for delivery today. Grr.

Weather forecast is basically rain until Sunday. 4 days of solid rain.

Will head into the kitchen and bake for after school snacks and lunchboxes. Might need to get a bit creative for lunches tomorrow, but am going to try not to spend anything more today. I need my 12th NSD this month. It is keeping me within budget, even with all the furniture bits, I am still on track and in budget.
Which frankly I am amazed about.
It just goes to show that I can live very cheaply and save a large amount if necessary, and when all the stupid bits of furniture is all bought, my budget will be able to include some fun stuff and luxuries.

Inlaws have said to DH they are coming over in half term. Except they got the dates of half term wrong. So they are going to change their ticket, but have not got back to us as to when they are coming. They are trying to convince us to book to go to the seaside somewhere for October half term and they will meet us there. On an undecided day for an undisclosed amount of time.
Judging by the weather at the moment. I would say..... erm .....NO!
They want to 'see the children'. Until I get a firm date of when they have booked to come I am not organising anything.
I think they just get off on throwing a 'visiting handgrenade' into the conversation and then stand back. They will either come or not. I am trying really hard not to get involved.

It has all gone very quiet on the step-gran front. I know she has been having some tests done, but when I rang this morning, she said could she ring me back later, and then decided she would ring me tomorrow. She is up to something.
    Crafty old bat.

Right off to put something nice in the oven. and listen to mystery hour on LBC. and clean stuff. I am a bit of a !!!!!! at the moment. Will do a total blitz once the headboard and cube unit are put up properly.

In other news, DH wants to go to the Swedish Place (House of Swede?) at the weekend. He is not allowed to go alone. He falls for every marking and product design trick going. Oh, and I mentioned sugar gliders to him, because the kids were yattering about them while he was away. He is in love. He wants a sugar glider. He is not having one. End of. He is just as bad as the kids.

A sugar glider is a minature marsupial that looks like a fluffier finger sized version of a gremlin. Very cute, and the current fashion craze in pets.

Being the suspicious wench I am, I decided to check online at 9am if the headboard was still at the distribution centre. It was. Imagine my surprise when I checked again at 11am and it states it is being delivered today before 8pm. No notification at all, not an email, not a text, and it left the same time as the other parcel this morning. So hopefully it is on the same van. But who knows!

Cut my hand on a broken glass in the washing up bowl. The kids don't seem to realise they smash when a cereal bowl is dropped on top of them. So no more washing up until suppertime.

Supper is a sweetcorn and potato chowder, with a lot of garlic in there for their throats, with YS foccacia (rosemary and sea salt) and pudding is ice cream and the last of the blackberries from the freezer with squeezed tangerine juice (sad looking tangerines in the fruitbowl) and icing sugar to make a nice thickened syrupy fruity sauce. The kids have been at the sugar again. Not even enough to make a cake with. I stopped buying them sugary cereal - they can have bran flakes, corn flakes, weetabix or shedded wheat - or porridge. That is Nothing with the levels of sugar on their 'favourite' cereals - one was nearly 25% sugar! So stopped that immediately and told them they are allowed ONE tsp of sugar if absolutely necessary. Obviously they are going for a very LARGE tsp. Still it is less than what was hidden in the other stuff. Plus I am not going through a box a day.

There are still 33 parcels to be delivered before mine ( I have the map open on my phone) but he is less than 1/2 mile away from me, bobbing about all over the city centre. I have to leave in one hour. Flippin' eck this is stressful. I am getting nothing done for checking the status!

Now it is 31 already. I should just reconcile myself to the fact I am going to be out when they deliver. Will knock next door and see if anyone is in that might take it for me. Typical.

  • If it helps, sugar gliders (whilst very cute) are a nightmare pet - they're very expensive and complicated to feed and are definitely the last pet I've had that I'd choose to go back to. They're tricky pets and need a lot of time, money and effort to look after!
I'm glad I no longer have to scour for reduced papaya all the time!
