What fun I have had reading your diary from the beginning this week
I am in awe of what you get done. We have an old house also in need of lots of plastering, painting and repairs and it takes me months to get anything done!
Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%
Pay off £7000 - £1743 - 19.4%
Make £2021 extra income - £99.751 -
You will get there XSpender - I am just on a timescale because I am at the whim of DH's academic career.
What I have learnt is that if you have the money to do it, just do it.
It is not as bad as you think it will be, I spend so much more time thinking about getting it done, than actually doing it. And when it is done I think - why on earth did I not just get it done before???
Yay to all of us in old houses!! They will be beautiful by the time we move on.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

That is so true about old houses, mine seems to have moved a bit this summer - there are many very ominous cracked that have appeared. It may be tied to the fact that they have been digging up close by for a new water main for the last 18 months. Investigations are underway, what a palaver.1

Could also be related to the incredibly dry summer we've had too. Hope it's nothing serious.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

Saturday morning and both DS3 & DS4 are out at table tennis club. £1 for an hour.
It is a life skill. Who knows, one day they may be an exchange student. They will be prepared.
Finally finished The Great Gatsby. Horrible, unhappy, people being horrible to other unhappy, horrible, people, just covered in glitter and sparkle. Sticking a sequin on it does not make it acceptable. That was my car book for when I am waiting outside school to pick up kids. Need to put a nice book in there this time.
Got 2 pop up laundry baskets for kids' bedrooms - still need 2 more but it is a start and at £3 each, did not break the bank. Good old c/shop
I went on an epic trek yesterday, did 12 charity shops, and came home with a ys cucumber. Total washout. Nothing. Not even a book. Ziltch.
So this morning I went to the furniture c/s and found the laundry baskety things and a silicone baking tray which is much smaller than anything I have, and the perfect size for tiffin. or ice cream bars. 50p. Their stock literally changes daily. They have masses that flies out the door, so I am trying to go in daily until my lists are all filled.
Also watched a very strutty young man swagger out of the hairdressers, walk across a road without looking left or right, and then sneeze all over his phone.
He looked so sad. I laughed all the way home.
So, it is coffee number 2, and then on with the projects.
I am hoping to paint the floor of the small toilet on the landing with tile paint - bought from Ald1 last week in the special buys section - about £4
Replace the skirting board on DS3s bedroom wall and paint, or paint and then replace, whichever.
Swap the stupid cabin bed (DON'T DO IT!!) in DS3s room with DS4s old bed.
Measure up DS3s room for storage cubes - it is working so well in DS1 antd DS4s rooms I am going the whole hog. I WILL HAVE ORDER! but I draw the line at alphabetising bookcases unless I am drawing a librarian's pay.
Sand down a bit of the bathroom door which is sticking and annoying me as it makes a loud noise and the kids slam it to shut it. It would not have happened if they had not swung on the door, but there you go.
And then attack the heaving pile of laundry that accumulates all week and then gets spewed in front of the washing machine on Saturday morning when I make them tidy their rooms.
And take a few pictures of the things that need to be evicted from the house. Ebay here I come. Or maybe gumtree. Either or.
Lunch is crackers and pickles and 'cheeses' and the last of the soup for those who want it.
DH is angling for a chinese meal out. I am trying to disuade him. He pays so it might happen. Can't remember the last takeaway we had let alone a meal out.
Football tonight - England vs Spain in the Nations League or something.
I have beer-free-beer in the fridge.
Right, now to get on with it.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

I am continually exhausted and amused in equal measures at your posts f0xh0les
We had some block work removed from under the stairs yesterday in prep for storage to be fitted (company that came to do the storage 'didn't do' removing blockwork, only stud walls) well let's say if the rest of the house is built like the blocks removed, it would take a large earthquake to move it. The builder was really careful and used the least dust creating method possible...but dust...so much dust. I will be dusting and re dusting all weekend still I'm sure.
I saw the film The Great Gatsby, the most redeeming feature was Leo. Have the book on my kindle I think. If you don't want a book about horrible people I'd say avoid 'the girl on the train' Talk about overrated tosh, I struggled through the book not really liking any of the characters except for perhaps the man characters friend, and the film was even worse given then totally relocated the story from London to the US for a start.
The Timetravellers Wife is good though if you haven't read it. Or a book I just read called The Brighton Mermaid.Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

No, they get to stay for the time being:rotfl:
Kerri Gt Fill a spray bottle with water and spray it around the room a few times a day. It grabs the dust and makes it fall to the floor. That and damp dusting is the only way to go.
The projects so far:
Paint the floor of the small toiletfirst coat done, looks ok
Replace the skirting board on DS3s bedroom wall and paint, Old skirting board removed, new one that is long enough put on, door sproing put back. painted
Swap the stupid cabin bed (DON'T DO IT!!) in DS3s room with DS4s old bed.Done - it weighs a tonne. So much MDF. I feel like I have done weights at the gym. Sawed a few of the worst damaged bits and made replacement slats for the 'new to him' bed
Measure up DS3s room for storage cubes -done
Sand down a bit of the bathroom door still to do
Attack the heaving pile of laundry - attacked and nearly routed - DH decided to help with the dry sheets on the line, sadly he dropped the height of the line, forgetting it was sheets, and has had to wash them again as they dragged on the ground and got muddy. Important lesson learned.
Take a few pictures of the things that need to be evicted from the house. not yet
DH made lunch instead, and has decided to save money tonight by having cheese and crackers with the football.
It is 5pm. I am stopping for the day. F0x out.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!
