And as if by magic, the credit card bill arrived..... (drumroll please).......... £0.47.

So I must have been pretty good at paying off as I bought. I was a bit worried as I can't check it online as I have forgotten all my internet banking stuff for it. So happy news ! Just the other credit card to think about and that is sub £200 anyway.

If DH won't help with colours I suggest painting your bedroom exactly how you'd like it, and seeing whether he becomes more involved after that...

I get decision fatigue on paint colours, but the combinations that have worked for me are:

Dulux subtle ivory (ceilings, woodwork and floorboards same colour) with brown/red toned curtains and ancient threadbare rug. Floorboards in all bedrooms/landing/stairs are all painted with diluted paint and varnished.

Walls & floors Dulux Edwardian lemon with brilliant white ceiling/woodwork and yellow/blue curtains/rugs etc.

Walls & floors Dulux Gardenia with brilliant white ceiling/woodwork and pink blinds/rugs etc

Walls, floors and ceilings dulux natural calico, woodwork dulux egyptian cotton (this combo works the other way round too - with white ceilings).

Walls F&B borrowed light, woodwork/ceilings brilliant white.

Walls F&B stiffkey blue, woodwork manor house grey, ceiling brilliant white. (This colour works well as a feature wall or with white as the feature wall).

Laura Ashley cranberry with dulux egyptian cotton.

Dulux Cornish clay walls with dulux rope ladder woodwork.

I don't use the branded paint - I get it mixed in Brewers or Johnstones where I know it will be consistent. I'm also using flat matt on ceilings to minimise reflection from lumps and bumps, and satinwood on woodwork.

I've painted all the ceilings with coving white, and the coving is also white, but I've seen some great examples of coving in darker colours as a contrast. Where there is no coving, then walls and ceilings are the same colour.

Hope these give you some ideas. Or at least hope... I have the kitchen and utility room to pick colours for. I'm considering red for the utility room... :)

My main concern is not having to redo it every 9 months due to kids rubbing up the walls/ trailing hands up the walls/ me scrubbing kids dirt off it. I know some says it is washable and scrubbable but still, either that or I need to convince the kids to wear full body hazmat suits and gloves inside at all times.

I would love to go into a paint shop and tell the man to find me some paint that looks like the inside of a crystal ball.

As long as you accept the installer is 18 months old and won't just install the dirt colour on the tiled floor.

Two sets of car insurance sorted - £250 for me and £270 for DH- he wanted his fob insured and that was extra. His car is 13 yrs old and we both use 'on-street parking.

So that's the big expense of the month sorted.
