3 loads of laundry on the line, Twinks' world famous n0bn0bs baked, 10 date and walnut scones baked - because dates are the only dried fruit left in my pantry after The Midnight Muncher has been and done his nefarious night time deeds.  I am so sick of going to get something out of the pantry and it being gone...  I am seriously considering a £10 purchase of 2 security bolts  a la

https://www.screwfix.com/p/yale-steel-yale-door-security-bolts-61mm-2-pack/79858  and sticking them on the door to the back room, so they don't even get into the flippin' kitchen.   Purely for security reasons, dontcha know......  grrrrrrr!

I think the most annoying thing, is that nobody is willing to admit it is them.  There was an article in the local paper, when we lived in Salford, where a couple had moved into a rented house, and the previous renters had kitted out the loft space, put a lock on the inside of the loft hatch, and moved in up there.  They came out when the new occupants were at work, ate from their cupboards, used their bathroom, and nipped back up before they were due home.  They caused no end of arguments between the couple - Where did you put the ....?  Did you eat the .....? Where's my flippin' .......?  and it was only because one had an accident at work and came home unexpectedly, that she found the 2 men in her kitchen with an  open loft hatch.  The police did not know what to charge them with, as they had not broken, nor entered - they were there first-, nor burgled as they had returned all the items except food, so I think finally there were done for squatting.   I walked past that house at least 4 times a day.  So it makes you wonder ....

Perhaps you could train them to leave the empty packets on a kitchen worktop, then at least you would know.  Or put it on a list on a laptop, which unlike a written list wouldn't have identifiable handwriting.  But they probably leave a teaspoonful behind in the packet.  My mother used to wonder where all her syrup went.

I still think you should set up a wildlife camera to catch them in the act but I do like the locks idea too

If you look out of your window right now, and look at the moon, and just above it is a bright bright light, and that is the planet Jupiter, visible to the naked eye, and utterly amazing!!
