I too was taught about 1920's fiscal policy, this is probably the first time in about 30 years I have thought about it.
My ds is about the same age as ds2 and has no idea which direction he wishes to go in. We suggested he look at various websites including the career service to give him some broad details on jobs and careers. He is currently in the process of creating a long list and is looking at skills, qualifications and experiences which are useful for many of areas he is interested in. He his academic but his interests are more arts-based. He is choosing to use his own time to continue his research into various career avenues.
I have never had a clue what I wanted to do, I used to think it was a fault until a colleague (who was about my age now) told me about 25 years ago she didn't know what she wanted to do when she grew up. Our other colleague said they were the same but we all agreed we loved the job we had, I only left because I moved 80 miles away to live with the OH. Currently, I am a SAHM who home educates our children, I have no idea where I am going when this phase of my life is over. I can remember being bored a lot at school which resulted in me being demotivated and underachieving my potential. I was in the top set for most of my subjects but I did not find it challenging or engaging.
Hopefully, ds2 can find his own motivation to improve his grades, even if it is only to show his teachers they were wrong.
I have more chance of him improving to beat his brother's grades
Right, on with the day.

I really don't know how they can be expected to know what they want to do at that age. Unless it's a clear path like a Doctor, Vet, Police etc. There are so many jobs and careers out there that they won't even come across until they are actually released into the wild. The job I do now I would never have heard of while I was at school - and it certainly isn't what I thought I wanted to do - nor do I use any of my A-level or Degree information per-se. In fact, I expect my Maths teacher would be astounded I am in a job that relies a lot on using maths - it wasn't I wasn't good at maths, I was - but I had very little interest in it when I was taking my exams because I didn't particularly like the teachers.
Well my 'no presents this year' pact seems to have gone t1ts up already.
When I said - no presents - they must have heard - I am hard up and struggling- as a £100 Xmas treats hamper just arrived at my door. It was the one person I thought would actually listen and agree to it. !!!!!!. Back to the drawing board. Does not bode well.
In cheap news, I have booked an MOT without a service for the first time ever. Will get it serviced in Feb/March when the kids regular savers mature. It is in the diary, and it is not written anywhere that you have to get them done at the same time. I have done 3K miles this year. How? I haven't flippin' been anywhere!

I had a brief panic as I could remember OH car having an MOT this year. All ok, it was done in February near OH office back in the day when he actually left the house, OH also arranged it for himself, which is most unusual.

You could not reciprocate the gift and make it very clear you meant what you said. Should solve the issue for next year.

Or contact them and say they must have sent to you in error as you had agreed on a no present policy so if they would give you the true recipients details you can send it on for them.
