Why thank you! Managed to miss the torrential showers, gave blood, most of the smaller shops were shut. No queues for H4lifax bank, although B4rclays and H5BC were snaking down the road and round the corners. The MAXX of TK's queue was flippin' ridiculous, but S&M had no queue whatsoever. Maybe just after lunchtime was a good time to go in.I have lots of vouchers to use tomorrow, I was going to go to the BaseH0me place on the way back, but the road is closed off from the direction I was coming in, and I had an appointment with some boys and some scones (seeded raspberry jam and dirty squirty cream from a nozzled tin). So we all had afternoon tea, and they are having a sausage sandwich for supper as they have all started wandering around opining they might be thinking of eating something. So they can fill up with toast if there is not enough sausages to fill the hole. I am still stuffed with scone.I shaved the sides of DS3 & 4's heads as well, and now we are ensconced with the football, and I have just finished the last of the 'thank you!, you really shouldn't have!' phone calls. What a lovely day

I've found it can be really hit an miss with the shops, and banks as to when there are queues or not. I went into town earlier this week and the two shops I really wanted were still closed (wanted to get some cards in P@perchase....and maybe give the stationery a little sniff...I've missed that shop and card buying online isn't the same)

Q&B and BaseH0me were both empty this morning. No queues, no waiting, hooray! Let the jungle-ification of the house commence! Did not spend more than £5 on any one plant, picked up one for £1, got some more for £2-£3, lots for £4 and three x 3 plants in one pot for £5, so will split those down. Bought compost, bought a laundry basket, bought some terracotta pots, and some blue enamel spray paint (why would you pay £9 for a small blue pot, when bigger size terracotta ones were £2.50 and paint is £4?). I have gone totally wild on houseplants. Lots of leafy ones, nearly bought dh a rubber plant. Might still buy him a rubber plant. It did look lovely, but it was £10 and I was only going to spend my birthday vouchers on me (hence the £4 laundry basket). Ended up coming home having spent £1.19 and still having £3 on my Q&B gift voucher. So excited to be the owner of an aloe vera plant!! I will be giving away aloe-babies forevermore.I am going to trawl the charity shops for containers and pots, there is no way I am spending that kind of money on a plant receptacle. Although some people were happily throwing them into their trolleys willy-nilly. I am sure they have put their prices up. Profiteering from a pandemic. Nipped past the chemist as well and restocked on all the o-o-c meds we have used up - £16 later...I need some veg for the weekend, and a bit of pasta, and some fizzy pop. So a small shop is on the cards for 3pm-ish today.I had the absolute worst sugar hangover on Thursday, all day, so passed on supper last night as I just was not feeling good - I cooked it, then left. They ate it, then left. I ate 2 fizzy S&M Colin the Caterpillars at about 8.30 pm (41calories per worm) and perked right up again. Normal service has resumed. Was 12.6 again this morning!!! yay! I am fully motivated to get rid of the next 2lbs, and after that DS3 wants to go running with me. So we can start to do that every morning. I have fewer lbs left to lose than I have already lost (by 1lb but I am taking it as a win).I have got DS1s new school timetable. He is in college 4 days a week, for 2 hours at a time. DS2 is in on Mondays at a completely different time to DS1 (who is in the next door building), so the school run will commence at 8.45 on Monday, and will end just at 1pm. Wednesday is my day off. So I think I may take advantage of being able to be out of the house for an hour or two, next week, and have a look around the c/shops near to where the kids go to school. Really what I am after comes under the heading of 'bric-a-brac' which apparently is what the c/s are all going to be drowning in. I am going full on Victorian houseplant mental. All the plants are quite small, but they do have a terrible habit of growing, or so I am told.Happy Friday Folks!4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

I have to wear a belt to hold my trousers up! la la la la la!We have trimmed the front hedge a little bit, just where the gate is - we have blackbirds nesting in ours and the next door's front hedges, so we were very quick and only did the bit that absolutely needed doing.I took DS1 off to school at 12.30 for his lesson, and went to a new community project that I had been told about, had a quick look around, very quickly realised they had no idea about presentation or marketing. A lot of these community groups can't get their heads around the idea that you can be poor and still proud. Sometime being 'free' is not enough, you have to start a conversation about waste, and retail, and recycling, about how hand-me-downs used to be a totally normal thing, but now everything has to be new, and consumerism is killing community, yet so much goes unsold and is dumped. Plenty of ways to get people to leave a place with nice clean new/ or new to them, clothes for their kids, and free food to make a base for decent meals with. There are a few people I think may be on their own personal mission, with their own agenda, they can't understand why people would not take things if something is free. I was a front row witness to this sort of thing for a decade on a nasty estate in Salford. You have to be very careful of people's pride. You have more chance as a cheeky ne'er-do-well than as a do-gooder. Tricky balancing act. Total minefield.Today was a good day, the sun shone so the laundry dried, found some nice shopping bits, wandered about a bit, stayed in budget, did not have to shout at any of my kids, danced in the kitchen, watched football, sang loudly and tunelessly and did not give a stuff, the fridge is full, the freezer is full, and I have half a tank of petrol in the car and nowhere to go until Thursday.B0z0 has cancelled the daily press briefing as covid is no longer of interest (to him). Interesting study coming out of China at the minute about anti-bodies to the virus not hanging about in your system for very long after getting well. Does not look like you get a long lasting immunity. But Shhh! you can go to Spain as long as you are common and have sense. I have not been wandering about the place as much as when the kids are at school all day, so I was really surprised that more than half of the shops on the local precinct are still closed, and only one charity shop - the Air Ambulance People - were open. The smaller independent shops were all closed too. C0stas were open though, for takeout, and there was a queue out the door for it, and cups everywhere on the 'street furniture', why can people not use the bins?? I dunno.Tomorrow, at 5pm, it is still going to be 31 degrees here. I will be melting by that point. I am not going out.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

I saw similar in town yesterday F0xh0les. Only two charity shops open, both with very limited numbers of people allowed in. But most were closed, and a lot of the bigger chain shops were closed (such as Argos), even though they had more space than the smaller independents that were open (including several cafes).

Well I feel like a right lazy mare today, although I did get up, do a load of laundry and peg it out, folded yesterday's 3 loads, made 5 salads for lunch (with pittas), watched the criminals next door come and decimate their hedge (poor blackbird nest is now nude). It is very odd, every time we do our hedge, they turn up within 24 hours and massacre theirs back to twigs. They must have someone watching the house. No sign of Mr or Ms Blackbird since the ransacking.Rang step-gran, she is miserable. Cleaned the kitchen, but it still does not feel like I have done anything, because after spending 25 minutes on hold with the Shanghai bank, I locked myself out of their internet banking months ago, and I did not receive my new credit card, and after ringing to find out about it, they refused to tell me, as I could not answer their security questions. Then they asked me to verify my address, which I said I hoped was up to date, as we have just taken out our mortgage with them, they decided that they would not need my address after all, and that they would send me out another telephone banking code, so I can ring them back and not be able to get through as I do not have the security number, and they will suggest I download their telephone app, which only throws out strings of code when it gets to the 'please enter the http://codemissingcmap....number of your secure code bit' . If it will not let me see which number I am supposed to enter, how am I supposed to use the flippin' app?? My phone is less than a year old. It is their app, not my phone. So, because of having spent half an hour wasting my time, I asked if I could just cancel my credit card, so that if it had fallen into the wrong hands at least they would not be able to use it, they said No, because I could not verify my security details. So I cannot have a card because I might not be me, they will not cancel my card because I might not be me, and I cannot close my account, as I might not be me. Although they are happy to send out a code enabling me to do all these things, as I might really be me, after all.I don't know who I am now, I quite fancy being CCL for the afternoon and go on a very Jolly- Gin-Jolly garden adventure.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

f0xh0les said:C0stas were open though, for takeout, and there was a queue out the door for it, and cups everywhere on the 'street furniture', why can people not use the bins??Many of the bins around here have covers over them so they can't be used.Congrats on the belt being needed to hold up your trousers.Have you noticed that those buying from the YS section are rarely those that look as though they need to? I think much of that is a matter of pride. But then I suppose if some people don't have pride then they don't have much at all.ETA Just in case anyone thinks this is a put down - it really isn't. I remember a time when I could have done with buying YS but didn't because I didn't want to be seen doing that. Now I am in a much better financial position - I don't care who sees me buying YS, I no longer need to be too proud!
