  • I love reading your diary Foxholes. Even though 3 of my 4 DSs have either left home or at Uni, it reminds me so much of the "fun and games and shenanigans" we used to have at back to school time, the arguments over "computer time" and the general chaos of 4 boys. Just this morning we raced out the house with DS4 holding his shoes in his hand, with him having also stolen the box the cakes were in to use as a lunch box as he couldn't find his from the day before. Even our OHs sound similar. During August bank holiday OH booked a camping trip with his mates as he had "forgotten" all the boys were home for the weekend! Do you think we were twins in another life lol x

I don't know if, as a fellow mum of 4 boys, you just kind of lump your dh in with the rest of the muppets. I know I do. He is a perfectly responsible grown up professional person outside of the house, but he walks in that door and every blade of sense leaves him.

DS1 realised at 6pm he had not seen his dad for a while - he had been gone for 36 hours. He also did not realise his smallest brother was not at the table with us for supper. I despair.

What is really lovely though, is when they stop b1tching and snapping at each other, like when they are decimating a pack of crumpets after coming in from school, they are actually starting to have conversations with each other. It is amazing to see, like when dogs stand on their hind legs and walk towards you. There is hope for them yet.

I have had two texts from dh, one to let me know he got to Manchester and it was raining, and one to let me know he was still alive and on his way out to the conference dinner. He does not really keep in touch when he is away. No idea what time he is back tomorrow, but he will be back less than 24 hours before he goes off camping with his mates.

The cleaning and tidying is going fabulously - even cleared 2/3 of the yard and will finish the rest tomorrow. Ready for winter. The floor in the back room is rediscovered!! I have a tabletop's worth of stuff to clear, sort and discard as much as possible of - I have a feeling a lot of it is the pile of stuff to be sold/ given away that I did not get around to last time. Will investigate further tomorrow.

Came home and made two soups - tomato and red pepper, and a veg soup. We had orzotto for supper, so that will do for a few lunches and supper tomorrow night - forward planning! get me!
Right. That is more than enough progress for one day, going to enjoy the rest of the football now.

Well, the table is completely free of tat, the kitchen corridor is clear, the pantry is ordered and inventorised, two sets of waist high shelving units have been cleaned and cleared and all the stuff in them put away elsewhere. There are 2 more sets of boxes in the kitchen that still need to be sorted. But I made scones instead and am communing with old Columbo films.

DH comes back this evening, and it got to just after lunchtime, and I cleaned the kitchen, and suddenly all my motivation left me. pouf!

Just going to do fake-fish and chips tonight. I get all excited dh is coming home, which is silly as he will come in tired and grumpy, and just wanting fed and his bed, while I am amorous and in need of some vaguely adult conversation. I will no doubt end up alone on the sofa with Jeremy Clarkson instead. Not really what I was hoping for.

DS3 did parkrun this morning and got another PB, second week in a row (he is not fast but at least he is getting better!) We are going to aim to break the 12 minute 2km barrier next week - so we need to knock a whole 8 seconds of this week's time. Gotta love a boy with a plan! DS4 was a lazy whining toad this morning, so I made the executive decision to leave him on his own for the 25 minutes we were out of the house - his two older brothers were here, and that way DS3 still got to go. I do not know how single parents manage. They must be superhuman to do it day in and day out. Hats off, and all that.

Child benefit comes in tomorrow, so I will pay off half of the credit card bill before it comes in. All the other accounts are looking good, and I am still within budget, so there is nothing to complain about financially speaking.
    Happy Sunday Folks!

Well done to DS3, and having a target to aim for is good motivation. Nice for you to know you can leave DS4 briefly with his brothers and the house is still standing.

Your energy never fails to amaze me. You deserve a sit down and put your feet up.

I definitely consider him as another muppet. He has absolutely no common sense at all. If I counted up the number of hours I have wasted looking for his keys, shoes and glasses over the years, I think I would be horrified. I am afraid to say that when I hear the "where's my ......" comments starting nowadays, I just ignore him or hide :rotfl:

When I hear 'where's my ......' I know it is a rhetorical question, he gets a raised eyebrow and I do not answer unless he asks 'have you seen my ........?' it is safer that way.

He is home, has been fed, and is now talking about being tired (sigh!)

Today has been cancelled due to lack of interest.

I have been absolutely amazing this last week. The yard is clear and swept, the kitchen has been moved around and there is only one box left in there to be sorted. All the laundry dried on the line, all the sheets and bedding, everything. The laundry room (the 5' bit where the washing machine lives in the space between the kitchen and downstairs bathroom) is clean and tidy and I can see the floor! Everything has been picked up, put away, or released. I am decimating my lists. Was going to get the mop and clean the dining room/kitchen/laundry floor this morning, but I woke up with rolling nausea, managed to get the kids to school on time, threw DS4 out at his gates 10 mins before school starts and left him there so that I could come home and lie on the sofa. And still managed to get home before DH had got out of bed. Hope it is not V&D. I can cope with one or the other - I have sofa'd myself voluntarily with a lemon tea and am not eating anything until it bug-gers off.

I feel sure the kitchen/dining/laundry floor will forgive me for one more day.

On the plus side I still have £30 of this week's budget to spend - I am going to get DS3 some proper running trainers tomorrow after ping pong.

DS1 came home with a letter about a skiing trip to America next Easter (£4k) and DS3 came home with a letter for a 5 day french residential (£450) where they do not leave the chateau. I know they do another one later in the year where they do EuroDisney/ Eiffel Tower / Paris shopping, so I told him he can go on that one instead, when it comes around. There is a time and a place for a totally immersive French language experience, but not at barely beginner level One. That is silly.
These Brex1t adverts on the tv and radio are annoying me. You cannot get ready for something that has not been decided yet.

The queue at the chemist for people stocking up on their repeat prescriptions was staggering. No wonder there is going to be shortages if people are hoarding already.
