Ooh mystery veg boxes! Do they come out on a specific day of the week? Haven't seen one in a local Lidl and I like the idea of a little anarchy in the kitchen!

They put out anything which looks a little sad or is just bb, they do them in the morning - sometime between 8 - 10 it is 5kg for £1.50 and really annoyingly they stick them after the till, so unless you know about them, you have paid already and are on the way out the door before you see them. Last week I got a big cauli, a punnet of grapes, 3 apples, a good size bag of new potatoes, 2 nectarines, cherry tomatoes, a bag of leeks, some celery, a lettuce and 3 pears. Not bad for £1.50. They have a few boxes out, and each is different, but you can't swap stuff. I do meal plan from the pantry, but I really love the 'danger' of jus t being able to throw the plans out the window if I get a particularly lovely box and suddenly greek salad and roast aubergine is on the menu instead of beans on toast. Mayhem!!!!!!

The veg boxes sound fab - sadly nearest L idl to here is about 35 miles away

I believe Mr M's shopping emporium does wonky veg boxes for around the same price, and you can order them online for delivery. If that is the way you choose to shop. Obv in Leedl you can have a quick poke and see if you want if, but the M's one is proper anarchic food planning.



So, dh was out the door at ten to seven. I managed to get all the kids to school just before the man with the clipboard turned up and starts shouting to ''hurry up, the gates are closing'', flippin' jobsworths. Bet soon someone will give them a hat and an armband to wear. Just stopped DS4 from taking a pair of swimming trunks (speedo) instead of his PE shorts to school - he was not impressed. He should have packed his kit properly like I have been telling him for the last 24 hours. Then came home, cleaned all the bedrooms on the top floor, all the bedrooms and bathroom and loo on the second floor, did all the bins and recycling, all the shoes from the hall have been sorted and put away (DH had 4 pairs of boots and 2 pairs of cycling shoes!), everywhere has been dusted (managed to kill the internet for 2 hours by accidentally pressing a button on the extremely dusty box thing - who knew??) and the living room is cleaned and tidied, the two pinboards in the kitchen have been totally decimated of anything pre 2019 except a self portrait of ds3 he did in nursery and it still makes me laugh every time I see it, and a picture of a narwahl DS4 did in foundation. They don't bring me pictures from school anymore, mind you, I can't believe that in December they will all be in double figures.

The youngest two were trying to convince me to have another baby this morning - odd conversation about prostates, why old people want erections anyway, sperms and eggs, culminating in a 5 minute hard sell on why they needed more siblings. They don't like the ones they have already half the time! Anyway, it is not happening. Final answer.

Even the coffee maker and the kettle have been descaled. That is how efficient I am when I am without dh for a few days - the question is, why do I not do this when he is here? Maybe because I know it will stay this way, and that I am doing it for me, not waiting for someone else to want to help out.


Did a quick tot up of all the money in all my accounts (including kids accounts) and I have just over £9k saved now. I am aiming for over £10k by Xmas. I need to get this building work started. So it is heads down, hard saving, and all building works to be done in 2020.

I still have not even got a quote yet!

Your kids trying to get you to have more :rotfl: I don't envy you that conversation.

I wonder if that's why I have never been into L1dl in my town and seen one of these veggie boxes. Because I look for them in the veggie aisle rather than after I've paid and am on my way out. But I know now.

Yesterday was a discussion on Viagra - dh dropped the word into the Brexit conversation and then immediately left the room. So of course the first question was "What's Viagra mum? why will there be a shortage of it? Why will the Brexiteers be upset about that?" The Viagra-bomb was dropped, and I could hear him sniggering in the hall.

He does a good line in 'dim and confused' when the kids ask sexy questions. He is such a prude!

But I would rather they ask me, than to just google stuff.

True, Googling could lead to all sorts of very tricky questions :eek::eek:
