Upgrading OS from Vista to 7

Currently have Vista Home premium but need at least windows 7 for a particular bit of software I need to download. Can I simply purchase a product key for Windows 7 and then download it? Or do I need to purchase the whole OS software?

OEM is original equipment manufacturer versions.
ie the version that comes pre installed on a pc when you buy it, as apposed to a retail "off the shelf version".

    Get a copy here : https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B7uwifuW-47rd2o5N1BFVm5jYWc

Choose your "bitness" (32 or 64) and choose the professional version
Let me know when your ready for the install and ill send you a key.

Your windows will have a dell logo if you go into system settings, but thats easilly removed if you dont like it

And to expand on the above...

    1. check whether you have 32 or 64 bit Vista
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/827218
    2. Get Windows Easy Transfer (32 or 64 bit version) from Microsoft (easily found using Google)
You can then backup your Vista data (or you can just backup individual files if you don't have much data; take care with email unless you know its all stored remotely)
    3. get a Windows 7 license; 32 or 64 bit; install from scratch; check the website of your computer maker to see if they have specific drivers for the hardware
    4. use Windows Easy Transfer to move data back to computer

Of course there is no requirement to "download an OEM version" and even less so an image specifically for a DELL if you don't have a DELL.

    Windows 7 Professional SP1 English 64 bit

    Windows 7 Professional SP1 English 32 bit

Again with the links !! 99% of your posts are those links !!

Are you going to do something useful and provide a key too ??

If the OP uses retail version with an OEM key then they have to go through the whole telephone activation saga. Hence my providing the correct version for the free key i provided

Of course one wouldn't be able to find anything for that...since such a machine does not exist.
It is of course an Inspiron 530 and there's no need to use a product key pulled from another machine. Let's hope AP doesn't go on to resell that machine.
With that machine you can update the BIOS firmware using a bootable USB Flash drive and then use one of AP's images(assuming they are DELL reinstallation images) to perform a clean install from boot.

    Inspiron 530 BIOS v1.0.18
Utilise Rufus to create a bootable USB Flash Drive: FreeDOS or MS-DOS is fine.

    rufus_dos_install.png

Drag the three files for Flashing onto the completed drive. Boot off the drive with the Inspiron and type DOSFLASH at the Command Prompt and hit the Enter key.
Wait until it does it's thing . Once complete, reboot. You are now ready for the install.
