PCP Car - can I give it back?
Options
Hi please help!
I bought a car in March 15 and since then have been having problems with the DPF unit (just been told by the ombudsman that it is up to me to deal with the problems, but that's another tale!)
I have heard/read somewhere that I can give the car back half way through my agreement. Its a 4 year contract so March 17 would be half way.
Can anyone give any advice?
Thanks!

First you should read your PCP agreement above voluntary terminating the contract.
As the DPF is a servicable item, I would put my efforts into fixing/replacing it or driving it in such a way that it regenorates itself, as per the owners manual - if its a brand new car take it back to the suppling dealer.0 -
'Somewhere'? Where was this somewhere you read it? It is certainly possibly to hand the car back under PCP terms but whether that is possible on your particular contract nobody can say.
Have a look at the contract you signed as this will detail what conditions you need to meet to VT it.0 -
If the OP gave details of the car, engine, age of vehicle and annual mileage/type of driving they may be able to get specific advice allowing them to deal with the DPF issue.0

In most PCP you have to have paid 50% of the agreement to be able to VT it.
Re the DPF get it mapped out and remove internals of it.. or get a diagnostics fella to force regen it..Sealed pot challenger # 10

Don't do this it is illegal now. It is also an automatic mot failure when the car reaches 3 years old. You would also be hit with a bill to replace the DPF when you returned the car.
its not actually illegal.. it would fail the MOT if the dpf is not present however if only the internals are removed and the shell is still present it will pass mot..Sealed pot challenger # 10

Assuming its a regulated credit agreement, then its easy to say - you can hand the car back once you have paid 50% of the total cost of the transaction (including deposit, fees, interest) with nothing further to pay (subject to fair wear and tear).
This is a right under the Consumer Credit Act0 -

No. Its 50% of the total transaction agreement, not halfway through the agreement. Subject to fair wear and tear.
This will be clearly documented in your finance agreement which you signed.0 -

This has been discussed many times.
An MOT centre cant cut open a DPF to see if there is a core in it, so as long as the DPF box is there and appears to be intact, there is nothing they can do.
And i dont believe theres any way other than that, that anyone could check it under "construction and use" regs0
