GETMEIN Ticket disputed

Hello!

This is my first MSE post so I'm sorry if it is a little waffley!

I was wondering if anybody could help with a dispute I am having with the ticket re-sale site GETMEIN (part of Ticketmaster).

My partner purchased two tickets for a concert at Festival Hall in the Southbank Centre that took place last weekend (he didn't actually resalise he was buying re-sold tickets as Ticketmaster re-directed him.

A few days before the concert he realised the tickets hadn't arrived in the post but that an e-ticket had come by email. After trying to print them out and our printer braking, I decided to contact GETMEIN to see if we needed to print them - I could not find a contact number/chat line/email address anywhere. After Googling it I saw on many sites that GETMEIN didn't have a dedicated helpline and Ticketmaster wouldn't discuss any matters regarding GETMEIN (I tried too but was asked for a Ticketmaster booking ref). After no luck getting in touch with them directly I decided to call the Southbank Centre directly. I spoke to somebody on the phone asked if an e-ticket needed to be printed or could I show the ticket on my phone. The advisor said it depended on where I'd bought my tickets and asked for this plus my seat numbers. As soon as she heard where they were bought from and checked that the seats didn't match our name she told me the tickets would be invalid as they don't accept re-sold tickets. My only option would be for them to cancel the tickets and we could re-buy them at face value on the evening. After telling her we paid £150 for the tickets she warned us that the face value of the tickets were only £10 and that this would be refunded to the card holder who originally bought the tickets.

After still not being able to find any details on how to contact GETMEIN I resorted to asking them on Twitter how I would go about getting a refund; only then did they send me a contact number to discuss the matter further. Once on the phone they told me seeing as I had contacted the venue instead of them directly, and the venue were invalidating the tickets, I had invalidated any claim to a refund from GETMEIN. Their advice was to try and enter the concert with the dodgy tickets that I had already been told wouldn't be accepted. Great. I was given an email address where I could send my dispute but basically told my chances weren't great as I'd breached their terms.

We ended up buying more tickets at the venue at a much higher price and found out that the same buyer had pulled the same trick on at least 8 other people and that the Southbank centre would be taking action against GETMEIN and the individual buyer as they are a charity funded arts organisation.

Where do I go from here?!
Thank you for reading :)

How could you find out the same buyer had pulled the same trick 8 times?

The seller doesn't get paid until after the event has taken place so if they have sold the same tickets 8 times this will have been reported and the seller would not have been paid. In this scenario they would refund you.

If the tickets were legitimate then your situation is different and you probably won't get a refund.

The problem with companies like getmein is that they act as the marketplace so I would be surprised if the contract wasn't between you and the seller. They'll probably try and wash their hands of this

    EDIT. I was right

3.1 Selecting tickets. As a Buyer, you choose a ticket from the listings on the Website and, when you've found the tickets you want at the right price, you click to buy that ticket, enter and confirm your credit or debit card information, and confirm the purchase of the tickets. For the avoidance of doubt, tickets are not listed and sold by GET ME IN!, they are listed and sold by third parties and your contract for the purchase of a ticket listed on the Website is made with the third party that has listed the ticket for sale. GET ME IN! does not itself sell tickets, it provides a marketplace (i.e. the Website and associated services) where people can meet to buy and sell tickets. Some sellers may include further information in regards to the event and / or tickets within the additional notes link displayed next to your chosen ticket online. Please ensure you have read the full listing details and are happy with your ticket selection prior to purchase as GETMEIN! are unable to rectify issues arising from overlooking this information

I'd get a new printer, OP.
  • They traced the buyer who had bought more than the two tickets that were sold to us...likely 8

That's slightly different. You originally seemed to imply that the seller sold the same tickets numerous times. In that scenario you should have got a refund.

If the seller bought lots of tickets and then touted them out it means that your tickets were unique and would have worked.

As this is the whole business model of getmein e.g. Allowing people to resell tickets, I don't see how you can win a claim when your argument is that someone used getmein to resell tickets.

I think the issue was your printer. Was there no other way you could've got the tickets printed off?

Anyone else reading the German "GET MEIN", rather than "Get Me In"? Or is it just me? :)

The issue is paying £150 for tickets with a face value of £10

You should have printed the tickets, not many venues allow tickets to be resold but they don't ask for proof of ID when at the door so you would have got in.

Unfortunately your printer breaking is no one else's fault.
  • You paid £150.00 for 2 tickets with a face value of £10! sorry but you have been foolish and stupid.
Next time research the event before you jump in feet first and blind.

Why are some implying it's ops fault??

Also what does face value even mean?? Gift vouchers say they have no face value. £10 face value of ops tickets doesn't seem to mean they can buy replacement tickets for ten quid.

At the end of the day op bought some tickets which through no fault of her own cannot use. Don't see why a small claims court would do anything but award judgement to op.

Op ringing the venue is irrelevant.
