Do basic bank accounts look bad on your credit file

Debating whether to use a HSBC basic bank account or a full current account with RBS. I can't get reward account as my account is England based.
Just don't want lenders to see basic bank account on credit files and decide not to lend- does it make any difference?

It'll just say "current account". Not even the provider name, let alone account 'type' is shown on the copy the lenders see when searching your file.
Sounds like you've never seen a credit report? Maybe take a look at yours?0 -
I have checked all 3 agencies and one says 'basic' against Yorkshire bank and HSBC.
It seems the banks can't even give me a straight answer!0 -
All that will appear on your credit file will be Current account and it will display what bank it's with. It will only show the last 4 digits of the bank account and whether or not you missed any payments i.e. went over drawn etc.
Mine shows this information anyway...0 -
OP don't forget what you see on your credit file is not what a company see's so whilst you might see basic, Clydesdale label theirs basic any company searching will not, don't forget most applications are algorithm based for automated decisions.

As previously stated no-one knows it's a basic bank account. However you may be penalised for the nil credit limit meaning you have no overdraft and that could be interpreted as not reliable enough for an overdraft. Doubtful.0 -
Some don't even show up on CRs.
Mine with Halifax is an old cardcash account and doesn't show on any of my CRs. [I've checked all three]. Although I have had it for 30yrs which could be why
My DS also has an Expresscash account and that again doesn't show at all. [well at least not on Noddle or Clearscore, he hasn't checked Experian]I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Budgeting & Bank Accounts, Credit Cards, Credit File & Ratings and Energy boards.
