Meg - I was genuinely puzzled as to why I couldn't manage my GC - but I've worked out that I've pretty much spent a third of my budget on stuff I'll use in future months - and when I get to future months date I'll be buying stuff for the future again! I'm considering having a 'future pot' that I can fund out of my savings for these spends - just to get it going. Then I can truly judge what a realistic monthly spend is - and hopefully put my eventual underspend towards it.
And now I need a sit down because - maths :rotfl:
I'm in the first camp and that's why I have a bulk buy fund, which starts at £100 on 1st January each year and covers butcher buying and cheap deals when I see them. I add monies left each month back into fund
You don't need to make it too complicated, as most peoples are always using from and adding to stock, ie you've probably used stuff this month that you had in store and are buying stuff to use another month all the time . HTH
Another NSD today - that puts us on 6 :j
Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday

A nominal fiver spent for the church soup today, in reality I bought all the food yesterday so it is not physically coming out of my pocket, but I accounted for 4 church soups when setting the monthly budget. Sig updated. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0

Online shop arriving today (£1 delivery instead of a £3 taxi because our car is broken). This should last us 2 weeks with purchase of 1 meat and a fresh veg towards end of week 2
£50 : includes sweet treats (as I end up popping to Tesco for these on my way home then grabbing other tings) and I needed washing powder, dishwash tabs and shower gel so not bad!:T
Our budget is looking a bit rubbish at the minuteneed to try and trim more from shopping.

Evening all,
Reporting in for the first time in eons ... although lurking
Totals on the door this month so far (month started 26/10):
Groceries: 186.66
Eating out: 37.15
Take away: 64.90
Total: 288.71
Which given I've had DD's birthday and half term in that, I'm not displeased with.
Tonight's dinner, I was pleased with, as I prepped it at lunchtime when I had some energy, as opposed to getting to teatime and not having inclination nor energy to cook once, let alone twice, to accommodate schedules.
So, it was slow cooker beef casserole and dumplings, which came complete with homegrown parsnips, tatties, leek (1/2 .... my first and I snapped it off in the ground, boo!), tomatoes, onions, garlic and cabbage and pre-homemade chicken stock
How is it I can veer from that to a diet of takeaways with no compunction either way, apart from money is a focus currently.
No idea what to have for dinner tomorrow, as it is another juggle timewise due to DD's Guides and DH not home until later. A recipe for disaster.
Possibly soup for her before Guides with rice pudding after Guides, and then pork chops for us. Hmmm ....GC - March 2024 -0 -
