I had a bit of surplus in this month's budget so I spent £8.70 on Christmas cake ingredients. That plus what I have in already will make 3 large cakes and 2 small ones. I'll keep one for us and the others will be gifts.
I also spent 5.03 stocking up on spices and sushi ingredients at the oriental supermarket as I only get there a few times a year.
I've had a good month thanks to this thread making me stop and think. I have been away staying with friends for three days this week which helped but I've still got a pile of HM ready meals in the freezer so I think I would have been under anyway. The cupboards are also ok but the fridge is looking a bit bare.

£7.10 spent - Wednesday, I think! - on top-ups of bread, fruit & veg, but there'll be a good £70 spent at the market today, which will take me well over budget. Thinking back, I was over-confident at the start of the month; I'll often spend more at the front end, re-stocking the non-perishables & cleaning stuff, then it's just fresh stuff for the rest of the month. But sudden price rises put a spanner in the works, so, note to self: keep a bit in reserve!Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0

£5 off £40 spend in Lidl should be in Saturdays Daily Mail.
Ussualy valid for a week
Thanks for the tip, unfortunatley my local Lidl has been demolished and they seem to be taking a very long time to build the new one.
Spends today:
Aldi - £26.56
Asda - £12.86
Sains - £6.50
This includes sweets for trick or treaters and a few goodies as I am
determined not to spend anything else this weekend as my month ends on Sunday.
I am now at £517.99 out of £500 so over budget but my average weekly spend in October is £103.60 compared with £158.14/week in September.
Next month is a frugal fast for us and aiming for £360 which will be £90/week and will be a real challenge for us even with a load of meat in the freezer.Save £10,500 - £2673.77 - 25.5%

Ah well - I actually only spent £60 at the market today, but am about to spend another £3.79 at the wholesaler's as I'm going past & it'd be daft not to pick up a litre of Greek Yogurt whilst I'm down there anyway. So I've come out nearly £50 over budget. Need to adjust my menu plans & recipe ideas accordingly!
But I'd also say that after the swingeing price rises earlier this month, things have settled down a bit; I could have bought a 25Kg sack of Wilja spuds for £5 today instead of the £10.95 they were at the start of October. And the greengrocers have gone back to having a half-table full of 50p past-its-most-presentable veg, which is great for soup, and free "pet leaves" which the chickens adore. So I might be able to recoup a little bit in November...Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0
