Phone currently drying out in some rice after it got wet while I was swimming today. I hadn't realised the waterproof case had failed so had been trying to use it...I hope it sorts itself out quickly as I don't want to have to buy a new one. I was having an okish Christmas Day until then but in a time where I am a little lonely and rely on my phone a lot for company it couldn't have happened at a worse time.

Trying to cook my dinner but don't have a timing device so am having to write all timings down and regularly check cooker clock. I accidentally set it once but no idea how now I actually need to use it :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

At a loss for what to do so cleaned my oven :rotfl: wondering what to do next. Phone still unhappy so may need to revert to my old one and get the number changed back but I like this one :(
Going to start on my Christmas jigsaw after this afternoon's swim but other than that I haven't got a clue what to do. I think the problem is I always feel I need to be doing something, need to find a way to change that!

  • How about meditation?... I haven't tried it yet, but I know colleagues with some challenging personal circumstances have found it beneficial

I started doing guided meditation a couple of months ago and it helped quite a lot but I have tried to do it a little differently during the day, maybe I should still do the structured ones as well.

I'm a bit the same with feeling I need to be doing something. I have just shared my 20-20 list - not sure if you have seen that thread - I have lots of things for myself and for our pleasure, otherwise I get a chores mentality going - so things like read 20 books, 20 local walks from home, that kind of thing are on my list, although I confess I have 20 deep proper cleans of the bathroom on there too.

You could do some of that to vary your experience and broaden your social circle. And of course, you plan to decorate a room or two so you could be planning that - colours, textures, paint, paper, pictures, fabrics and so on; costing and building in when and what help you may need - so you know when to start, fitting in with your work and other commitments.
    Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

I'd recommend it too. For the past couple of years I've done ten minutes of meditation each day, first thing in the morning, and have found it very helpful in dealing with a very busy life and high-stress job. My mind's always a bit of a blur with all the things going on, and I find meditation lets me untangle all that and let go of all the things that stress me but don't actually matter. Even if it's a really stressful day and my mind's boiling over too much to really relax, ten minutes focused on my breathing helps. I just go for unguided and a timer with a gentle 'ding' after ten minutes, nothing guided like Headspace.

I also do at least fifteen minutes a day of yoga in the evening to stretch out and unwind, that really helps me let go too. Mostly simple stretching and breathing, I can't do the difficult stuff.

I like this idea so will give it some thought.

I ended up buying out of my phone contract today and getting a new phone/contract. The price of a handset and then SIM only contract in 8 months time was only £11 cheaper over the next 2 years but did mean I needed to pay £170 today. Unfortunately I haven't been able to transfer contacts and photos over but new phone is set to back up regularly so I can always access them.

Doubting my idea of OPing my maturing RD account next week. I need to check the wiring, boiler and heating system in the house before I start decorating and while it will cost more than £3k if they need updating it seems silly to tie the money up and raid savings when there could be a need for it. If I end up not needing it I will OP it later.
