  • In a round of broadcast interviews last night, Mr Corbyn said: 'What I would do about immigration is try to bring about a degree of coterminosity, a degree of equality of work conditions and wages across Europe.
'Post-Brexit, I have been talking to colleagues in socialist parties all across Europe about how we bring in harmonisation of wages and working conditions, which would help reduce the numbers of people flowing each way.'
Wage rates in some parts of the EU, such as Bulgaria, are as low as £1 an hour – far below the UK's £7.20 minimum, which Mr Corbyn wants to raise to £10.
Mr Corbyn's soft stance on immigration will dismay Labour moderates.

    La la land......
  • They really are a brainless bunch...
Labour peer Shami Chakrabarti's ceremonial position as chancellor of the University of Essex has come under pressure from politicians over her disparaging remarks about Essex men.
The human rights campaigner had pleaded with Jewish and ethnic minority voters to stay in the Labour Party at a rally in Liverpool on Monday, adding: 'Please don't go. Don't leave me here, don't leave me locked in a room with Essex man.'
Her remarks, reported by the Mail, caused outrage from MPs, MEPs and local councillors.

It's Essex man that empties her bins, that moves her pallets of Waitrose artisinal Parmesan in a warehouse on his forklift and fixes her leaky shower.

Come on mate, you're not thinking outside the box.
    1. Our businesses pay £10 NMW to our workers
    2. Bulgarian businesses pay £1 NMW to their workers
    3. Corbyn's government subsidies £9 extra NMW to the Bulgarian workers.

There is no downside to this plan. Everyone gets paid the same, no need for any Bulgarians to come here looking for work, everyone is happy, we all dance round naked with flowers in our hair.

Bring him on to what? Are you really a centre ground moderate......? :rotfl:
Love this thread. Rugged isn't it time for you to poke these small business tory types again:rotfl: You stir 'em up and sit back and watch the freak show. Looking forward to another round of boomer invective and hate;). He's playing you folks and you cant resist it. I think its due to repressed self centredness and guilt over your boomer appropriation of resources............that you worked so hard for........by sleeping in cars and not taking a wage from your businesses while paying your employees oodles of money.................purleeeeese. That one made me choke on my coffee.....it was hilarious.:rotfl:

    It's not that unusual.

Chris Powell one of the world's most famous personal trainers ended up sleeping in his car to keep his business going.
Powell became a trainer and even appeared on "Good Morning Arizona." But after some bad business deals, he found himself living out of his car.
"I felt like a fraud, I felt like a total fraud," he said. "I made poor business decisions. I was hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt. I was losing everything."

    He kept going though....

Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you.
  • Personally I would love it if the next Labour leadership were between Umunna and Khan. Two hideous oily metropolitan creeps and one of them even nominated Corbyn!

There is nobody in the PLP capable of winning a Labour leadership election who is also capable of winning a General Election. Nobody.

I've been saying since about 2008 - unfortunately on thisislondon.co.uk - that the next Labour PM wasn't even in the HoC yet. I am starting to wonder if said personage is even out of nappies yet.

    Earnings reality check.

    Just had a typical enquiry;
Italian British lad employed running a chip shop for another Italian British bloke.

Takes home £1100 per week, but payslips show 3 times less.
His outgoings are £5500 pm and he easily cover them.

So if he were taxed properly his gross earnings would be about £90k pa.

Official stats have him earning less than £40k.

This is why I could never be a lefty - the reality is so different to the picture painted by naïve Corbyn types.

What's the turnover of the business? My chippy makes a good living by doing everything using family. No way could he gross £90k per annum.

But his monthly income is £4766 (1100*52/12), so there's no way he can easily cover outgoings that much higher than his income.

I'm not sure I get your point though - cash businesses tend to dodge tax?

    Plus child benefit x 2.

Point is this is what I've seen in the flesh for 25 years - people in Accountancy and some financial services sectors see this reality.

So when I then see lovely middle class compassion warriors that resemble Harry Potter fresh out of Uni standing on Corbyns stage bleating on about the supposed lack of earnings, based on wholly unreliable official figures, I just see staggering naivety

Effectively these compassion apostles speak on behalf of supposed 'poor' people that are making far more money than they.

Millions of non status and self cert mortgages were bought by people with hidden earnings which ought to tell academics and experts that there's far more to earnings than meets the eye
