In his speech this morning Comrade McDonnell came up with some new twaddle. He's proposing that at the point of any change in ownership or winding down of a company, the workers would be given a first-refusal right to take the company over – effectively stripping every company owner of the right to dispose of their property as they please.0

Surprising he didn't want the state to have first refusal.0 -
I have to say Comrade McDonnell looks knackered - I really do think he's too old....0

Some highlights for the good old working class builders and van drivers of Britain, from todays conference;
9am: ‘You can’t build peace with concrete: ending our relationships with Israel’s illegal settlements’
Speakers include: Jeremy Corbyn (possibly); Emily Thornberry
12.30pm: Brexit: Unite against racism and hatred
Speakers include: Diane Abbott0 -

1) Labour are historically weak but this may be partly (largely?) due to the current leadership that could change quickly
2) The Tories do not have a strong parliamentary postion and risk reversals in the commons as well as the lords
3) We are 'not in Kansas anymore' with regards to basing policy on the last election manifesto
4) We have a completely new Tory party senior leadership with a more traditoinal (more right wing) mindset
I would say all that equals a spring election, the Brexit negotiating postion is ample justification for over-riding the 'fixed term' act. MY gues swould b ea March election with a 'Brexit position' manifesto thus putting of article 50 until after the election.
I didn't follow the reference to Kansas --I'm missing something.
0n 1 - I suspect it's gone beyond Corbyn. Certainly he puts the blockers on Labour, but I reckon the general public are coming to terms with a different Labour Party than the one Labour Voters voted for in the recent past.
On 4 - T. May's words given so far indicated a shift to the left, even straying to the left of centre. It's too early to judge that but I do think the announcement of the consultation (?) on Grammar Schools, which was a bad move I think, could be characterised as Right Wing in spite of the words regarding advancement of kids from disadvantaged blah blah.Union, not Disunion
I have a Right Wing and a Left Wing.
It's the only way to fly straight.0 -
Interesting thing about anti semitism in Labour
It's a fact of life that if the Arabs put down their guns and suicide bombers there would be no war.
If Israel put down their guns there will be no Israel.
And no, I'm not Jewish, just a realist0 -

Remind me not to listen to that one. The one person who comes out with racism and hatred is Dianne Abbot!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

I've said that if Mr Corbyn got in, I'd close the business there and then. I suspect that all the years of being paid less than staff, having your house up against finance blah, blah, won't get factored in:cool:0
