Misty I always love the mantra ' the best things in life aren't things' from The Minimalists. Your story sums that up beautifully.

I'm with you there! She told me that she hated the clutter but felt duty bound to hang on to and look after family heirlooms etc. Whenever someone suggested selling or giving it away she would feel a tremendous amount of guilt and end up keeping it all. The fire took away her choice in the matter. Instead of replacing most of the things that were destroyed, she only bought what she needs to be comfortable and has been spending the rest of the money travelling. She says her memories are more valuable than anything that was lost. I must admit I'm a little envious... the thought of starting again with a clean slate and a full bank balance is very appealing. :o

Thank you, you lot are lovely :) I think I'll refrain from burning the house down Misty :rotfl: I must admit I've been tempted though in the past :D

So lovely posters, lurkers and general hangers on that lurk upon my diary.....much help is needed :) we want to get the CM something special as a present to remember the kids by. She is a friend of ours and treats/loves our two as hers. DS suggested a photo of the two of them, which is lovely but I think there's something else we could get her. Any ideas???

Boring update on the house move....everyone in the chain is set for the 6th April, so that's the target...holidays have been rearranged to accommodate.

Nearly had to have stern words with the school about DD but all got sorted, still mad but some people should do better things than telling tales. On the upside DD is walking to school tomorrow & to/from school Thursday/Friday.

DD got mentioned in the school newsletter for becoming a Guide :)

Dinner tonight was Tapas, we had everything in so was a cheap dinner, it was nice for a change and used up bits out of the freezer. Plus, I have lunch tomorrow too.
  • I wrote a lovely long post last night and my ipad decided to stop the webpage working.

Everything with the house is progressing nicely, the buyers solicitors have come back with a few queries, but nothing major, it will however cost us an extra £290 on top to cover something but will come out of the funds at the end.

DH is worrying now that we can't afford it. We can, we both earn decent money and just need to get rid of the debt, which will also help. We can't stay where we are and the new house/area is good for us as a family.

Exchange of contracts is set for Friday, with moving due on the 6th April still :D

DS came home from Cadets last night, he passed his Parade test and earned his beret, hopefully he will get his uniform before we move and then he'll be a fully fledged Cadet.

Kids are going to see their new schools on Monday, DS has a couple of tests to take, so DD's new school is doing her visit whilst that goes on.

On a side note - Now things are progressing with the house and I can see light at the end of the tunnel, I am determined that we will get rid of the debt. DH should have some fairly sizeable chunks of commission coming in, which will help too.

Just need to sort out the budget properly once we are settled and BUDGET!!!!
  • Afternoon :)

House stuff - After being told yesterday that we wouldn't be exchanging contracts until Monday due to the buyers dad interferring and delaying things.......The Solicitors are in the process of exchanging :D:D

DD and I are booked in for a haircut, I hate hairdressers and only go when I get fed up with my hair or DH whinges are me too much.

DS needs his new glasses adjusting tomorrow too.

Onwards with the decluttering of the house and many more dump/charity shop runs too this weekend.

  • ****DRUM ROLL****

The Solicitors have exchanged Contracts and everything is now legally binding and we have the house :D:D

This just got real _pale_ _pale_
  • Wow, I can't believe it!!! It honestly seems like a couple of weeks ago when you had decided you wanted to move. I'm so glad it's gone relatively smoothly!

Me either, know what you mean though. If the original buyer had carried on, we'd have moved on the 8th of this month but now we're moving slightly less than a month later.
