Is a 'World Elite Mastercard 'Posh' ?

I notice NatWest do a Black Mastercard which is Branded 'World Elite' on the back, is this considered a 'Posh' card, or would a Barclays Black Cashback Amex be Posher ?.

I mean purely for 'Snob' Value, and no its not for me, its just a discussion between friends and I need to get other views.

Depends on your idea of 'posh' I suppose. 'Special' credit cards fall in to the same bracket as personalised registration plates for me. A bit nouveau.

World Elite MasterCard was meant to be a Premium Card with recognisable concierge and travel benefit (similar to Amex Platinum Chargecard, Visa Infinite/Signature), however it depend from the actual issuer . In the case of RBS /Natwest, they have moved the benefits onto the current account holders from the old black credit card, and the new World Elite Mastercard Credit Card has a lower fee but also No travel benefits.

It still carry an £89 annual fee vs no fee of the Barclaycard cashback

    Fixed that for you ;)
  • Who needs posh.

Do the benefits justify the fee?

Answer that question and you know whether or not it's worth having.

The only card for the rich is the AmEx black one (aka Centurian) with no actual limit (the most ever spent on it is apparently $170m for a painting) and it's invitation only. If wikipedia is correct the invitation fee is $7500 with a $2500 annual fee. The card is made from titanium. You need to have been a platinum card holder for a while and have a lot of cash, AmEx don't reveal what the eligibility criteria is though it's believe to be a spend of $250,000 a year with income over $1.3m and net worth of $16m.

It has all sorts of benefits like a free companion ticket if you buy a full fare flight on an airline or personal shoppers and an exclusive area in the airport lounge with special drinks not available to anyone else

It was a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy as the legend has it as rumours of this secret card were so rife in the 80s and 90s that loads of rich people bugged AmEx about it (even though it didn't exist), so they created it.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Yes it is posh and those who have it are better than everybody else
  • Surely you can't get rich or stay rich while spending lots of money on useless status cards. As someone else already remarked, it's really something only a nouveau riche would do.

There is no fee as the person that has it also has a NatWest Black Current account, so the fee is Waived.

So with the fact that there is no fee is it still worth it ?, or is the Barclacard Amex still better ?.

No Amex is better. Don't leave home without one. Third party cards using the Amex payment provision are two a penny. About as common as it gets.

Personally, I go more for functionality than posh. However I admit I have wafted my Amex card about on occasion :)

According to your signature you have the American Express Platinum Every Day Credit Card and the American Express Card (green charge card I assume?) - why would you waft either of these cards about?
