It's a program that was on your PC before the W10 update that isn't going to work with win10. You need to find the offending program and either uninstall it or manually update it, most likely something put on there by the OEM that you can do without.

Make and model of PC ?

Sorry, had to go out, its a Toshiba satelite L500-1XC

Just had a thought. I've just been reading on another thread that you don't need other Internet security as its built into Win 10. I have Kaspersky and have had it for years, don't want o get rid of that but could it be that that is clashing with the Microsoft AV?

Unlikely, it's probably going to be one of the old W7 Toshiba utilities.

In the search window on the taskbar, type taskmanger then click the taskmanager desktop app to run it. Next click the start-up tab in task manager and what do you see, can you list the programs ?

These are a list of programs that automagically load when windows starts which we can then selectively disable from running.

When it first came on, it said about clicking express settings but first thing I did was switch off all the settings that said it was sending stuff to Microsoft. What else do I need to switch off?
I also switched Cortana off as that said it sent stuff to Microsoft too. I don't want them following my every move, what happened to privacy?

Everything marked with a * I would disable for now. Additionally you have some adware there, Mindspark. You should also run malwarebytes.

    https://blog.malwarebytes.com/cybercrime/2014/11/mindspark-toolbars/

Another thing you should remove completely is java unless you play minecraft. Remove this completely from add remove programs.

There is a lot of unnecessary software running there. The laptop must be as slow as a snail,,especially if still running on 2GB. You can safely disable most if not all from running at Startup.

I really prefer a back up of data and a clean install of the operating system. Taking the RAM up to 4GB, even better. Swap HDD for an SSD, the best. Will be like having a new laptop.

Yes you are right Nifty, it is slow. Still has only 2GB.
I did a disc image as well as a backup both onto an external hard drive before I downloaded Win 10 just in case.
Wouldn't know how to swap HDD for SSD i'm afraid and wary of taking it apart as I rely on it for work, can't afford to mess it up.

Yes I changed that before you posted back as I realised you may be connecting that way. You don't actually need the ecomode as you can use the inbuilt standard windows powersaving. OEMs have a nasty habit of filling your computer with carp that you don't need.
