Have you any other accounts with barclays, savings etc, the additional amount you say could be they have closed down any other accounts with them and put it all into your currant account.

I always find these closing of accounts, no access etc worrying in the sense the wait for the letter to explain all but with no access to your money or account, hence why the advice for having more than one account as back up or a credit card is essential.

Using a personal account for business with a turnover of £50k will almost certainly be a breach of the terms and conditions. You need to open a business account as soon as possible.

I wonder if the problem is that you continued to use the old card after it was reported to be malfunctioning and after it should have been cancelled by the bank. Partly their fault but I can see that the system might throw up all sort of alarms, when a new card has been issued and the old one continues in use.

That's a reasonable theory, and I would accept such a reason if only they would tell me.
The reason it has become such a stressful situation for me is they won't give me a reason, or a timetable for a solution to the problem.

I have about 20 miles worth of fuel in my car and almost no food, I may have to borrow money from family in the next few days.

I have two accounts with Barclays, one is an ISA which has 6k in, and the other is the current account.

I have no back up other than a Sainsburys credit card which in principle I could use for short term spending, but the problem with that is I have only ever used it online so I have no idea what the pin is, I presume they won't be able to give me the pin over the phone.

Once again, the business did not "turnover" 50k!

The majority of that is a payment from a pension.

If you genuinely believe you have done nothing wrong, I would get the complaint started today on the online form:

    https://bank.barclays.co.uk/olb/auth/FeedbackForm.action

Then follow it up with a call first thing tomorrow, if pushed hard enough they will allow you to go into the bank to collect some cash as they can't keep your own money from you.

I would also start listing everything for compensation.

I would also Google barclays CEO email and then look at the ceo-mail website for his email, a quick email to his executive team will definitely speed the process up.

If as you say you've done nothing wrong at all, I would be getting quite frustrated at this point and be wanting the bank to make amends and rapidly.
    Thanks

Thanks very much for the ideas, very useful. The online form link you gave requires me to log in, which I am unable to do.
