Turnover for the last six months about £50k

Then you should have considered opening a business account. Little point in complaining when you are the one in breach of the terms and conditions.

The only reason the amount is so high is I retired and the lump sum went through the account.

What breach? They haven't told me of any breach.

B&M = bricks and Mortar, shorthand for a real branch.

It's a personal account, I have been self employed for eight years, had the account since 1999.
Well, I use it for business in the sense that I am self employed and my income comes into that account from a variety of sources, mainly from Paypal.

You need to decide whether you are self-employed or retired or semi-retired or whatever.
  • That's fair enough, if that's the reason, why can't they TELL me? It's not knowing that's freaking me out.
One thing that I find odd is when I was hanging on earlier, pressing buttons on the phone for various options, an automated voice gave me an account balance, and the total they gave me was about £2000 more than I had in the account.

Maybe someone paid £2000 into your account by mistake; realised the mistake and requested the money back? Perhaps this caused Barclays to look at your account? Alternatively, perhaps you expected £2000 to leave your account but it hasn't because Barclays has frozen your account?

If I was in your position I'd be opening new accounts with a different bank asap.

Why is receiving a lump sum from a pension a "problem", by "turnover" I was referring to the amount of money coming into the account, the majority of which was the pension payment.

I don't "have" to decide such a thing, my status can be semi-retired, there's no laws against continuing to earn a living whilst drawing a pension, as long as its declared and tax is paid.

That actually sounds a possibility, I have no idea (if such a payment has been made) where it could have come from, there are no payments of this approximate amount due into my account.

I don't bank with Barclays, but is there also an option to hear a list of recent transactions like there is with some of my providers?
