Of course they do, but not after four months.

The leather steering wheel on my car is seven years old and is perfect apart from a couple of shiny bits where I normally keep my hands. That's wear and tear, and after seven years is to be expected. But not after four months - four years maybe!

That is how i see it.

between us we have had cars with leather steering wheels for many years, i have just changed mine after getting it from new, it had 120000 miles on it and the steering wheel was like new.

my wifes last car had 29000 miles on it, my son has it now, and again the wheel is like new

we both look after our cars and spend some amount of time detailing them ,so this is frustrating

Has any product been applied to the wheel?

More than this, have you cleaned the steering wheel with a wet cloth in the past?

Have you tried going back to the supplying dealer and claiming under CRA? Did you use finance? You could try them. It does seem very poor and if you pxed it in now I'm sure they would knock money off it for that fault.

Come on guys, if this was your brand new car, and the wheel went like that after a month (I understand it feels worse than it looks), you'd be at the desk at the dealership complaining. OP should do the same. Loudly. Near potential customers!
Wear and tear - brake pads, tyres, even clutch, over varying amounts of time. You can argue over how long you would 'reasonably expect' a steering wheel to last, but it should be in years, not months.

havent done anything yet, i am waiting until the weekend and going to take the car to the supplying dealer, difficult to go in the week.

could get to a closer dealer in the week, but havent explored the options with the supplying dealer yet

    no its not

it is the top section, my wife tends to hold the steering wheel each side where the leather is thicker and perforated.

she doesnt put hand cream on in the mornings before getting in the car ( i had already asked her that)

Do you think it could be sun damage?

It does look like the leather has stretched slightly.

I can't see the sun on it's own doing that own unless the steering wheel got wet or something was spilled onto it.

Again I think your best bet would be to try another SEAT dealer for a 2nd opinion.
