Hi WTBSE! Long time no speak!
I used to follow your old savings diary in here so delighted to come across your new thread.
Sorry to hear you've been through the mill a bit for the last year, but sounds like life is on the up and you have a plan!
For us, the last 2 years have been insane, particularly the last 12 months since I went back to work after my second son. With a £1300 per month childcare bill things have been a bit tight (understatement!) and we've built up some debt. I have a better paid job now and my eldest starts school in August so in hoping from then we can really ramp up in paying off the debt and starting to save properly for big things that we've been aiming for like a new kitchen.
We have a massive year coming up with my sisters wedding and a lot of big birthdays so this year will be tricky! Need to get my finger out and make a plan like you!
How's the bringing the food bill down coming along?CC1: £4481.14/ £5031.14 (12% paid off, £600) | CC2:£3307/ £3807 (14.4% paid off, £550) | Loan: £10,528.20/ £15,792.30((33% paid off, £5,264))
July debt total: £24,630.44 | New debt total: £18,316.34 | Total debt paid: £6,414.10 (26%)

Lots of change going on. My car is in the garage and will cost about £700 to fix
The car itself is only worth about £800, so this is a bit of a nightmare.
We cannot be without a car, as i have to get my son to appointments, so we (my son and I) have decided to get a motability car.
I didn't want to post about this, as i was worried the benefit basher people jumping on board
But it is what it is.
I've decided that whatever i sell my car for will go towards debt. I'm hoping it'll sell for about £700 (ish).
I also have a car sinking fund that I'm not sure what to do with if i get a mobility car. I wont have to pay tax/mot/insurance/tyres, so I'm thinking that the £600 in that sinking fund could also be thrown at debt.
I have £663 left on my capital one card,so I could pay off the Capital One card, and then make a payment on the barclaycard too. Then i only have the rest of the barclaycard to pay off! Thats the biggie, most debt on there, so it'll take a while! It stands at £5700 i think.0 -
£550 i have been offered for the car, so i am going to take it and put it towards my credit card. That should only leave £63 on the Capital One card.
Then i will attack the Barclaycard, which is the last credit card!0 -
Congratulations on almost paying the capital one card off, and being on the last debt
Sounds like you'll save a fortune having the new car, and if you're entitled to it then you should get it and make the most of itStill here..... but working on that!0 -
I have never heard of a mobility car before but if you are entitled to it then go for it. Who would think badly of you for that?" Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Thank you Bob and LSD
Ye, we have decided to go for it. We don't actually have any choice, since i cant get my son to his appointments unless we get the motability car.
I am waiting for my new licence to arrive in the post, then going to book a few test drives and pick one.
I cant remember if i told you all, but i've started a support group for those who care for people with Autism. It's going really well! We already have 21 members and i only started 2 weeks ago.
I am funding it entirely from my own pocket, but it's only costing about £20 a month to hire the hall. We have just been sponsored by a local corner shop, and they are proving tea, coffee, sugar, milk, biscuits etc.
I spent yesterday sorting out my February budget. A few things needed to be changed. A few categories removed and a few added. So thats all up to date.
The biggest difference recently has been the ability to keep within my food budget! I've not been able to do that ever before, so it's good to finally manage it. The overspending i used to do was always on food, so i am now able to stick to my budget0
