Have I missed he opportunity to get W10 installed for free :(
On the face of it, yes.

Personally I think Microsoft were too heavy-handed with the 'Get Windows X' app, but no-one could say they haven't been clear about the date. On one computer I was using, it even popped up a countdown timer, just to make the point.

I say "on the face of it", because people have pointed out that
    a) the free upgrade is still available for people who say they use 'assistive technologies' and
    b) one journalist seems to be saying that he can still activate Windows 10 with a Product Key from Windows 7/8.x

    Have a look here.

If they want to make it safer why do they still allow programs to share files and access anything and everything?

I could understand when storage was small but with the drives available today, a few dupliacted files wont matter. Each program should be installed in its own folder and only allowed to access outside folders with permission.

That video doesn't prove anything though.
Installing Windows 10 isn't the issue - you can always install it from an ISO both before and after the deadline.

The question is whether the activation servers will activate it? You can't change the clock on the activation servers, of course.
  • If only I had installed it before :D

(one of the windows insiders from the start :D)

Amazed how many people left it to the last day to install :rotfl:

Windows Vista/8/8.1 now 10 whats the problem :p

being as they gave everyone so long to download w10 free, I wouldn't be surprised if they don't cut support for 7 and 8 sooner than 2020, forcing people to upgrade at a cost.
I've stayed with 7, my 10 year old acer will be due renewal for w11, when support is withdrawn..
if it ain't broke, why fix it.
I even still use a nokia 1100 phone

Who needs Windows? Better off with Linux Mint 18. Free, easier to use and safe.

If they do that then it will just accelerate the move that businesses are currently doing toward thin client environments.

As business contracts are the bulk of OS sales it could hurt them badly.

You forgot to mention that everybody is familiar with Windows and a lot of things run from it. It also comes with a far steeper learning curve than Windows and higher support costs.
