What is this Windows 10? Why bother with Windows after all, when DOS does everything you need. Windows is just a fancy package for people who don't like looking at code.

    You've been drinking, haven't you?
  • I remember sitting in flat in London and watching the bbc six o clock news and the big fuss about windows 95 being released, and the queue to get it.

Who will agree with me that within 10 years we will have a VR windows OS where we will walk around inside it, though now just starting to get popular in games.

I've still got a couple of PCs running on Windows XP. No issues at all. They keep receiving updates from someone. I've got this PC running on Windows 10 and it keeps freezing. I should have left it on Windows XP but people on here were saying it's out of date etc. What I still don't understand is how it's supposed to be better. If Windows 10 has any extra features I certainly don't use them.

Better is usually the core and security .
Personal opinion i would use XP if i did not have a free copy of Win 10 . Win 10 an OS that i simply don't have problems with . That is possible due to it being a clean install rather than over the top of another OS .
Strange that so many that slagged of XP on its release now wont move on . Ditto win 3. 3.1 and so on .

No you are not getting XP updates.
This was explained to you on this thread.

You will still be getting updates for the MS .net framework program suite, updates for any MSoffice products on your PC, possibly the monthly MS malicious software removal tool and MS defender AV update if installed.
However you are NOT getting any updates for the main operating system XP - they have ceased.

Ahhhh Windows 10, that's that thing that kept trying to trick me into installing it and then resorted to doing so anyway when closing the notification using the red X.

Yeah I vaguely remember it, I downloaded this thing called GWX control panel and strangely enough it stopped bugging me.

I installed three instances of Windows 10 on Thursday - just to associate with the licences I have for Windows 8.

The look and feel of XP made it both logical and intuitive.

Latter versions might be safer, but, as a user, just made life more complicated.

Who on earth decided, for example, to get rid of the Start button on the original Windows 8? And the Charms added NOTHING if you were using the OS on a laptop.

Vista was sluggish. Windows 7 slower to boot and 8 (shudder) disappear into a never never land of non-intuitive use.

XP was the peak. It worked. It was simple. Latter versions, as noted earlier, seemed to have been changed simply because designers needed to prove their worth - and they failed miserably.
