Hi Chums, thank for the support, Jack was 16 in February, and to my mind it was totally unacceptable to expect a young lad to lift anything like that.
He went into his volunteering job this morning (he does two shifts a week at the local Marie Curie shop) and all the ladies said virtually what a lot of you on here said. That it was at the very least exploitation, and almost child labour. They too said the chap should be reported to the local council, but Jack said he didn't want to make a fuss,he was just happy not to be going there anymore.
He starts 6th form in September, and had been hoping for a few hours a week to keep himself ticking over. His older brother Ben who is at Uni texted him to say 'Pack it in now Jack, you only get one spine, and you must look after it ' So it looks like we were all thinking along the same lines.
He came in at lunchtime from the CS beaming and said his normal 'Hi Ya Gran, want a cuppa ' He is such a nice lad and always so cheerful and would do anything to help anyone bless him I am going to canvass a few folk that I know to try and see if I can get him a few odd jobs.
He gets his GCSE results at the end of August and I usually treat the grandchildren to a gift of cash if they do well, the previous three have all had a decent treat so he will be no different. I know what he has on his wish list to save for so fingers crossed he maybe a lucky boy
The little Jack Russell Lexi has been very playful now she is on her own, and Mikey my youngest DGS has been a good lad and walked her twice. She may miss her fellow dog ,but she is loving having the extra fuss:)
Nice bit of a breeze today and was a lot more comfortable indoors. I am reading Bill Brysons The Road to Little Dribbling at the moment and its very funny and surprisingly accurate about the UK
Hope you all have had a good day
Take care all

He should receive training, appropriate gloves, boots and help and if under 16 is not allowed to do it!.....I believe there are exceptions if you work in the family business but there is still a duty of care to minors above that to all employees.
Don't employers have to do risk assessments these days when they employ young people? Absolutely you gave the right advice JackieO but I think you should follow it up with local authority or some other young person with not such an obliging granny might be struggling with the job...Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14
