This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning everyone.

It's a silly time to be awake on a FRIDAY! The sky is so bright and clear that surely it promises a lovely day - a washing bedding kind of day perhaps?

'Work' yesterday was so quiet, hardly anyone turned up. Then I did a little (and very controlled) shopping. Only bought vegetables and some mini-wraps. There's so much meat in the freezer to use up that I simply have to dig it out.

Breakfast is back to being egg and avocado though I've stopped poaching the eggs. Just can't do it properly and it seems an awful lot of power for one egg. I've looked into microwave poaching but not tried it yet - seems that the egg yolk needs to be pierced which surely must make it into some kind of scrambled texture? Anyway, I can boil more and prepare the mixture for a couple of days.

No real plans for the day as I cut the grass last night.

I hope everyone has a good Saturday.
  • Morning GERS and all to follow. Tell me if I am wrong but isn't it Friday?!!

We had the 3 DGDs for tea and sleepover last night. They were all much later to bed with it being school hols, so I am hoping they sleep a lot longer this morning! If the day is fine we are getting their bikes out and all heading up to the Moor Gate, where they can ride them on the bumpy farm track to the moors without fear of traffic. Whether it turns out to be a picnic day remains to be seen! If not we are back here for pizza and chips!

The Friday cleaning day will have to be postponed until tomorrow but it can't be helped!

Have a good day and (((HUGS))) where needed. CAFEKATE enjoy your short break on the lake. Sounds lovely! Take care all xx

    Morning everyone

WHO STOLE FRIDAY? I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO MY OTHER DAY OFF BEFORE WORKING SATURDAY MORNING!! Don't think the menfolk in my house will be too impressed - Saturdays are their days off and DH already gone to work stupid early and DS1 now getting ready for work.

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, light cloud with some blue sky poking through, drying up underfoot after the rain yesterday afternoon, forecast is the same today, dry this morning then rain this afternoon. I did manage to get a whole line of washing dry but then had to get a line full in as it started to rain, so will be putting that back out shortly.

Dinner last night was pasta in a cream, mushroom and bacon sauce, with a portion of chicken breast fillet wrapped in smoked bacon and side of HG green beans and broccoli, dessert was cheesecake - all eaten and enjoyed, tonight will be pizza and chips for the menfolk, I'll possibly have just a slice of pizza or may just have a bowl of salad.

I did get some jobs done yesterday, the ironing all got done, but there are several items of clothing that are still to go back out on the line, so if I can get those dry I'll iron those later. I do want to do some baking later, as menfolk really enjoyed having a dessert last week and the mince pies and cakes the week before, so I'll be baking this afternoon to put some treats in the tins.

I'll be heading to the SM first thing, can't bear it later when it's packed.

    Keep safe and well x

Morning all, a dull, cool morning here.

It is my day off so paperwork at home. What horrible person invented laptops? Now my work follows me around in a trolley case.

Cafe Kate, have a lovely adventure and here is the recipe for chocolate concrete. The recipe can be adjusted upwards according to how many mouths to feed/teeth to rot.

    8 oz plain flour
    2 oz cocoa
    4 oz granulated sugar
    4 oz melted margarine.

Mix it up, press into a baking tray and bake for 30 minutes at gas 4.

When cool cut it up but no idea how long it keeps because - apart from me - everyone likes it and it goes immediately. Apparently it should be accompanied by another horror, pink custard. Not sure how custard gets pink, but I don't eat that either so have not even looked it up.

I don't know where I got the recipe so cannot attribute it.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning all,

Looks to be a good day here, we had rain all afternoon and evening yesterday but its cleared up, we have an event day at work today which will be busy but it does make the time go quicker.

Working this weekend as well so I have my days off next week to look forward to.

Need to wash some work t-shirts tonight and have a sweep round, OH can do the housework over the weekend.

Tonight will be a takeaway and maybe just a couple of glasses of wine because of work tomorrow.

    Have good days all xx

Morning all, thanks for the thread Gers.

Looks a bit gloomy outside. We had some rain yesterday late afternoon which was good timing as I needed to water a neighbours garden. Ended up just doing the pots and hanging baskets and the 4 (yes 4) greenhouses which have tomatoes, aubergines and peppers in. Still took about an hour!

Today I'm at the church although I have to nip out at 10am and drive with ds1 to work as he has an extra shift. DH and ds2 will be home late afternoon, so after work I will steam mop the floors and have a quick tidy round. Tbh it's very tidy here with less people to mess things up!

Dinner will be chicken curry, rice and naan bread. Quick and easy jar from Aldi with some mini naans I got for 25p yellow stickered. Will be running around later unpacking the minibus and following DH back to Biggin hill to drop it off so needed something quick.

Cafekate - enjoy your break, sounds lovely.

    Have a good day all

    Morning all,

I don,t work Friday's and I have trained DH to tiptoe in the mornings, unfortunately he tiptoed down stairs this morning leaving the alarm to go off and 06:15

Hey-Ho I guess it means I can get a jump on the day, bathrooms and bedrooms today  And laundry folding/ironing and putting away.

We are out tonight with friends, it was one of their birthdays this week, so, as it was a school night, we will have a few tonight with her :D

I will make cupcakes this morning, some to present to Birthday girl and some for DH - can't decide between chocolate frosting or lemon

Off to find coffee - have a fab Friday all X

Good Morning chums Only two weeks to go until our holibobs and the boys are getting excited.Today I will go and pick up the ashes of their beloved dog and we are taking them with us to the Isle of Wight to scatter on our favourite beach at St Helens Duver.

DDs gums are still a bit sore, but she managed some mash and gravy last night.Hopefully they will soon heal up.

DGS Jack was pretty down yesterday He was doing this 'trial' job in a newsagents, and working hard and kept coming home saying his back hurt him On talking to him it appears that the boss wanted him every day to shift four heavy machines from the shop to outside and two were those little sit-in cars that children pester their Mum for rides in, and the other two were machines where you put money in and get bubble gum from
He said I don't mind the work Granny, but I am finding it really hard to lift the machines and the chap kept saying ''Come on Hurry up move those machines .He apparently isn't a very nice chap, and kept complaining all the time about the youngsters of today and how hard he had to work when he lived back in his country as a boy.

Now our Jack is a very willing happy lad who would do anything for anyone and to me if he is hurting himself moving heavy stuff that surely is a H &S worry. His is a skinny lad, like most teenagers, but fairly fit and healthy and in no way lazy at all. He had still carried on doing his shifts at the charity shop two days a week volunteering, and he gets on so well there, and is well liked by the staff.

He was so miserable yesterday I said 'Right son ring him up and thank him for the 'trial' but no way are you going to work anywhere that makes you so unhappy, and if you do an injury to your spine is he going to cover you, all for £3.25 and hour I don't think so'.

So he did this and felt a lot better bless him .He is just a kid, and really wanted to earn some cash bless him,but my protective instincts rose up.The family have had enough problems this week and Jack is such a happy-go-lucky lad and to see him so unhappy it just wasn't worth the trouble.

Bless him he was worried that him Mum and Dad might think less of him but I said nonsense they don't want to see you in a back brace.I certainly wouldn't think it was very safe to allow a boy to move heavy stuff like that

So he is now unemployed again ,well not getting paid to work anyway. He loves it at the Marie Curie shop, and the women there all said what a nice polite helpful lad he is and how he cheers them all up when he comes into work there.

I'm sure I can find him some small jobs to do to help him out over the holidays. Or do you think he should have stayed there.

Weather is a little cooler and I'm not sure what we will be doing today yet.Tomorrow I am off to Faversham as its my sis-in-laws 70th birthday party.I have found a nice B&B close to the venue and she has no idea about the party so it will be a nice surprise for her.Lots of people turning up from all over the place.
Right time to get a wriggle on and have some breakfast I think
Hope everyone has a good day what ever you are doing, another month almost gone !!! where does tha time fly to I wonder

    Cheers chums
