  • Will someone please give me a good slap?

In my car boot rummaging I unearthed a box of books and magazines that had been submerged at the back of the garage for years. Tucked in among the books was a wallet with £25 of Sainsbob vouchers in. I'm so ashamed of myself, not to mention livid, that I didn't get these spent sooner. They were probably from a survey site redemption or something. They were just completely forgotten.

They look really 'old fashioned' somehow and must surely date from maybe 2008:eek:. There's no issue or expiry date on them and I wonder whether they'll still be honoured. I've a round trip of about 35 miles to my nearest store so don't want to waste petrol (plus, I never go to that town for anything if I can help it). I dread embarrassment at the checkout too.

Any advice? I thought of writing to their Head Office and sending a scan of the vouchers in the hope they might reissue them if I was to send them in.

    Good afternoon.
Minky is healing nicely. 2 days of antibiotics left and he's allowed out again. :) He ran out today (sneeky devil) but was a good boy and came back in as soon as I told him to.
    *Trained him well* :cool2:

    Does this count?
A friend of mine lives in the next town over so we like to meet maybe once a month for coffee and cake. Usually £5 plus travel costs (very other time). So £5 as it was her turn to come to me.
Today she brought homemade chocolate scones over abd I made iced lattès and a strawberry milkshake for her 2 kids. Does this count as saving £5? I also gave her little boy a birthday present that was an unwanted/recyled gift which would have cost about £3.
    Hmmm... not sure.

I would. I did this with some garden vouchers that had expired. they agreed after a year to replace them in had to return them all to prove I hadn't used and then was trying to claim them again. they sent me fresh ones that I have since lost and arelated now expired. I was waiting for DH to sort garden efore buying plants :(

but definitely I would give it a go. good luck

Not unless you can physically take the same amount if money and put it in savings or towards something, no.

I would pat yourself on the back for frugal behaviour and virtual savings.

yes please. I don't have any at the moment as I usually recycle them with local shoe mender who repairs and sends abroad.

Well, these are just bits and bobs I've picked up from various conversations I've read etc and having looked into the other adverts out there, it seems to be quite a consistent approach to selling shoes of this nature:

    1. Listings titles should contain the words 'Well worn and trashed......'. These appear to be THE code words searched by those seeking shoes of this particular nature.

    2. Be very careful wording your ads. Anything remotely 'adult' may be flagged and removed. Look at other listings to get an idea. However, it does help to suggest the shoes have been well worn for whatever purpose you can think of (something that paints a subtle picture for the seller and backs the idea up that they may be quite smelly. Used in the Summer/bartending etc) and that although very old, there may still be some life in them for the right person/only selling as have new pair etc etc.

    3. The bay has strict cleanliness policies regarding items sold, and it is general practice to add a line at the end of the add to the effect of - 'these shoes will be posted in line with ebays cleanliness and hygiene requirements'. It covers your rear, but everyone knows you will still be posting them stinking to high heaven - which is what the buyer is looking for!

    4. Many people seal the shoes down in air tight bags, or as best they can otherwise, so as not to lose their, errrrrrrr......fresh appeal!

    5. Use as many images of the shoes as possible. If you're comfortable, it is preferred that the shoes be pictured on your feet and posed with maybe even a little ankle is showing. Do not make the mistake of posting pictures of your feet outside of the shoes, as this will be flagged up as going against the bays T&C's. Your ad will be removed and you will be slapped on the wrist. Trust me, I found out the hard way LOL!

    6. Insoles are sought after and foot people like to see well defined toe prints. Wear the shoes with dirty feet if you have to and maybe give them a good [STRIKE]thrashing[/STRIKE] wearing in the week or so before they are sold/posted. Again, take strong pictures of these both inside and outside of the shoe. Suggest in the listing that you are including them despite being well used, as they are beautifully moulded to the shoe now and may still be of use to someone.

    7. Nothing is too skanky or rank. Seriously. It is always worth a try and relist a few times before giving up completely. ALL SORTS go, from £3 pumps, to ragged fluffy slippers, to knee high boots, to converse trainers, to full on stripper style heels. It really does depend on who's looking at the time.

    8. I prefer to keep listings for these types of items short - say a few days or so. The longer they are up, the more chance there is that someone might find a reason to take the ad down and slap your wrists.

    9. The emails. You are highly likely to get emails ranging from compliments on your ankles, to requests for more specific pics, to details of how much they smell. Be prepared. If you don't think you can cope with it, don't do it. I reply to some (in brief!!), but not to all. It depends on the tone of the mail and gut instinct. Most people, in my experience, have been quite polite, if keen!

    10. NEVER EVER, EVER, EVER say yes to a collection. STAY. SAFE. You may even want to set up a new account for this stuff as your address will be visible to any buyer once the transaction has completed. Just keep it in mind. If you're not comfortable with the risks involved, don't do it.

    11. Make the listing private.

So there you are! Apologies for the length of the post, but might be useful to some. Feel free to ask any other queries by PM if preferred. I'm by no means an expert, I've only sold a few bits like this, but the above is a good starting point to jump start it if you fancy a challenge :rotfl:

Haha I trained my boys from kittens and it's bloody hard work! Though, admittedly they can be quite naughty sometimes. Lol.

I may try the bay next month with the worn shoes advice. I'm brave! :P will have to set that up as I'm not really sure how to sell things online. Maybe that's a task for next month.
intensive house cleaning continues... found 25p in roadkill. I'm excited to put all this money on my credit cards!!

I seem to have an unexpected "student account refund" payment appear in my account. Am on holiday atm so don't know if anything has come through the post about this but I haven't had a student account for years and haven't applied for anything of the sort so if there's no post about it I suppose I better pop in my branch. So possibly "yay, surprise £150" but I'm going to make sure it's actually for me before I add it!
