How much is your commute?

Does it have to be West London?
Where exactly do you work? South East London have areas where you can get 1-2 bedroom flats within £250,000, and potentially a shorter commute..
It doesn't have to be.. but we know the area and my boyfriend works in west London so moving to the south would benefit me but not him.
What areas in the south east would be affordable?
We did also look at Kent. I'm not ruling anything out really, just wanted to get an idea of what everyone's doing.
We have even considered leaving the south completely and looking for jobs somewhere like Manchester, but there are so many more options in London and I'm from London and don't really want to leave.Save 12K in 2017 #023 = £1345/ £6000 (22.41%)

Lewisham has some properties for c.£250k - with mainline trains going to Charing Cross, Cannon Street and Victoria within 20 minutes, so easy to get a tube west if its on the District Line. Similarly Catford has trains to Cannon Street, Charing Cross and Blackfriars0 -
I'm going to win this...
I live in Southend in Essex and my annual gold card season ticket costs £4740.00 this year and the journey to central London takes 110 minutes each way."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
Don't estimate the value purely in monetary terms. And don't write off the extra time spent commuting. I love my time on the train. I get a seat, cocoon myself in my headphones and binge on box sets. Years of great telly I missed when I was younger, when I had a short (but miserable) commute and a social life.
Will you be happy in a smaller property or do you need the space?
Will you end up moving further out anyway or will your household income increase substantially to be able to afford that next step within London.
Is your social life in London, or will you find new things do outside London? A 27 minute train journey becomes longer when you look at timetables outside of peak as they tend to be stopping services.0 -

If i was guaranteed a seat the commute really wouldn't bother me - I love reading. But if the commute is me standing in a corner being forced into someone else's armpit - i mind it
Ideally I think we want a garden, I wouldn't mind a tiny place if I had some outdoor space, thats what really puts me off a flat.
I think my boyfriend's social life would be impacted more than mine if we moved out of london, I prefer nights in, he likes the pub.
I always wanted to stay near my family but that just doesn't look like it can happen

That's crazy! Why do you do that commute? You prefer the life outside london that much?Save 12K in 2017 #023 = £1345/ £6000 (22.41%)

4 miles each way - 10 minutes, i go through around a tank of diesel a month which is circa £55.
(Obviously miles away from London)0 -
Until three years ago, £5,300 per year - train season ticket into London.
Now: £0. I have a 15 minute bike ride to work.
I earn £35k per year less but I'm immeasurably happier.0
