How much is your commute?

Just wondering how much everyone's commutes are?

Looking to buy our first place at the moment and the only places we can afford inside London are 1-2 bed flats with a 1.5 hour commute with travel costing around £160 a month.

Started looking further out e.g Stevenage where we could get a 2-3 bed house with drive, garden etc for the same price, the commute time is still around the same time but massively more expensive at around £400 per month.

The latter would be affordable, just about, but would obviously not leave much spare cash for going out etc. So how much does everyone pay to commute? Is a garden etc worth an extra £250 a month?

I'm very jealous, that would obviously be ideal but I have to be onsite to offer training and drop-in sessions unfortunately.

I spend around £400 on diesel a month. But during the week I tend to go to two of our offices the most, both are 150 mile round trip.

Question is sadly a bit pointless because it depends where you work and where you live obviously! For example, I live in zone 1, work in zone 2 and have free travel so it costs me nothing. Where do you work?

What no Cake??? Stingy mug, you already don't pay for a commute already

Back to the OP, 550 for a season ticket a month for train, not including parking at train station and petrol to the station

I recently moved a bit further from work.

I now do about 35 miles a day (there and back)

A full tank of petrol lasts roughly 9 days and costs me £40 so I spend approx. £120-£150 a month.

My car is 10 years old now, but I'll keep it until it gives up on me, then I'll be getting a diesel

    100 miles a day 5 days a week......on the m62!!! Torture!!!

    Mrs won't move
  • We live in Surrey and I commute to North London, but three days a week. I used to drive everyday to work and it cost over £130 a month in petrol. Since condensing my original hours into three days a week, my petrol is down to £40 a month partly because I don't spend hours stuck in the parking lot that is the M25.
