Let's not assume OS means cash-strapped. OS is a great way to keep household expenses down but it's not just about that. It's about getting the best from every £ you spend, be that mince or caviar. So, yes, I would be OS - and I'd make sure the staff were too :rotfl:"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain." ~ Vivian Greene0

Hiya
Interesting one for me, this thread, as I got a pay rise a couple of months ago which felt like winning the lottery to me! (I've been underpaid in my job for quite a few years now)
It made me more frugal as I don't want to 'waste' my extra money or become complaicent, I've managed to start paying decent chunks off a 'bank of Mum and Dad' loan too
And the first thing I treat us too? A cleaner :rotfl: She does 2 hours on a Friday for me but it's soooo good to have someone do the bits I never get round to while I juggle a full time job and 2 young children, and I have peace of mind that my house is getting a decent deep clean once a week
Just wanted to post as I was interested that others have said they'd get a cleaner, and it was the first (and only) thing I've treated the family too! It looks like I'm not alone on that thought thenApril 2021 Grocery Challenge 34.29 / 2500 -
I think I would still remain OS, but just not have the money worries (obviously). OS is who I am too - I love the feeling of having made something myself and have always made things from scratch even when we had money.
Living very OS for the past few years has taught me to know myself better - I can now recognise that if I 'desperately' need a new gadget/item before I start on a placement, it's stress, not a real need, and I've taught myself to recognise this and work through it rather than spending money.
So, apart from travelling and getting a cleaner, I don't think I would change. I'm just about to qualify as a mental health nurse and don't think I wouldn't work in my chosen field (forensics) as I absolutely love it! (oh, and I like to see money in the bank too....)0 -
Even more so! i wouldn't have to work rediculous hours for no money and would spend my life in the kitchen and growing fruit and veg and would get a small holding too!Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Hi frugal,
Probably...it's a way of life for me now. Saying that I think I'd mangage to force myself to enjoy some luxuries I don't have now.Like holidays/travelling.....lots and lots of travelling. Pity I don't do the lottery.
This earlier thread has lots more opinions:

I'll add your thread to it later to keep the replies together.

I would probably be alot more OS as I wouldn't have to work. Oh bliss - I could have some help in the garden with the heavy bits. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -
Would you still be as OS as you are now if you won the lottery?
I think I would as I love cooking, but I would spend on a cleaner to help around the house and get her whatever cleaning stuff she asked for
ahhh Yes, I would def do more travelling
I'd probably be even more OS than I am now because I'd be able to pay someone/people to do all the daily jobs that seem to fill up all my time. I'd still cook for my family but would have a cleaner and maybe a part-time gardener. I imagine that would free up some time to spend doing the things that I really enjoy, like my allotment (part-time gardener could weed for me though lol), crochet etc. I'd also have time to learn how to use my sewing machine properly so I can make the things that are in my head and not on a shelf, all without feeling guilty that I'm spending time doing things I enjoy rather than the things we have to do on a daily basis just to keep the house in order."Who’s that tripping over my bridge?" roared the Troll.

LMAO I just realised... I don't do the lottery either :rotfl::rotfl: Altho I used to date someone who later won 1.8m
(it wouldn't have been worth it to stay with him tho!)0 -
I don't do the lottery, but if i were to inherit a substantial sum of money then I would pay off debts (mine and others in the family), buy both my children a starter home when the time was right for them, and ensure that all our healthcare needs were met, both now and in the future. If there was enough over i would invest it and allow it to generate interest so that there was future financial security.
No matter how much money I had i wouldn't employ a cook or a cleaner, though i would make use of an ironing service as i absolutely hate ironing. I don't 'do' flash so can't think of anything that i particularly hanker after....though it would be nice (if not OS/Environmetally sound) to have a dishwasher.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

I would be more OS as we would get a house with lots of land so i could have my veggie patches and fruit trees and chickens. I wouldnt have a cleaner as I wouldnt think they could clean as well as me and I love cooking so I would have to keep doing that! I think I would have a log fire and go out gathering the logs so we would have more heat than we do now!!! lol But I like my life (would be better without debt though!!! :P) so I think the only thing that would change is the size of the house and garden and the amount of cars/gadgets dh has (he is not really into OS!!!). And I could have my own wine cellar filled with wines i have made out of fruits from the garden!!!0
