you have a £5 million lottery win, now how Old Style are you?

Options
Question - you have a 5 million pound lottery win, so that's plenty to take care of your family, friends and charities etc, so you are now seriously well off. Which oldstyle ways do you hang on to and which do you drop like a stone?
For me I would keep up the homebaking because there is no such thing as nice bought scones or flapjacks, I would seek out bogofs etc for groceries but I would ditch Morrisons in favour of Marks and Spencer for food.

So what do you keep and what do you ditch?

I would still want to use my breadmaker, slow cooker and ice cream maker as there is nothing like home made stuff.

I would still want a practical car and do repairs to present house as it suits our needs for the next few years.

Very little would change - other than not worrying about balancing everything out.:j

Don't think I would change that much. Might stop using value brands and go for own brands.

Might turn the heating on more but that would be it.

But in the end you can only drive one car at a time. Wear one set of clothes live in one house at time. Still need to eat so still need to cook.

I have never done ready meals. Once in a blue moon. So nothing would there would change.

Don't forget a lot of what people do is not just about money saving. It is about being able to enjoy a better standard of living. e.g no ready meals, growing own veg, baking own bread etc. So we know what is going in our food. And money saving is a nice bonus.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Buy the field next to my house (but slightly out of sight) and build my own wind farm , buy a combined petrol/electric car and save on my electricity bill!

Quit work and spend my time working out the best BOGOFs in the area in my green car to save more money!
Oh and get myself a nice invisible housekeeper (never in the way but VERY efficient) to do all my jobs in the house and give a break to the toilet paper fairy.... :rotfl:

I'd have an AGA - a four oven one, in cream
But I'd still have to get up in the morning to get children to school so would still be subject to some routine - just as well probably
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

I would buy myself a nice flat - probably in a quiet corner of central London, overlooking the river or one of the big parks - and I would chuck in my job. I'd invest the majority of the money to give me an annuity. Then, ironically, I would probably become MORE old-style because I would have the time on my hands to cook more, get an allotment, etc etc etc.

Other than the flat, the only extravagances I can see myself having are more meals out, and more travelling. If I had loads of cash, a paid-for home and no job, then if a few years passed and I was still not married with kids, I'd probably look into adoption or fostering, and start bringing up disadvantaged kids to know the value of money and the superficiality of brand names!

I would continue to read and write to this forum.
It doesn't matter how much money you have if you can't enjoy yourself, and is there a better way to enjoy yourself when you can't sleep because you're jet-lagged?

    Ooh, interesting question.

Having escaped the need to work for a living, I would probably go to college. Might work after that but in a job I want, not the dreaded 9-5 grind to pay the mortgage.

Still cook meals from the basics but I would be able to buy organic and/or fine foods.

I'd like a house with a garden, I don't fancy small holding but I'd like to at least have a bash at growing my own veggies. I don't want to live in the country but I would move to a much nicer part of town.

Financial security *yawn* maybe it's a sign of getting older, but I really crave the idea of rock solid pension, health insurance and whatever else it takes to know that I won't ever have to worry about money again.

I genuinely like finding bargains so I'd still shop in the sales and charity shops but just sometimes I'd like to find some fabulous frock and just slap the money down on the spot!

I'd like to buy my son what he needs and wants without fretting whether his new shoes will blow the budget. I still wouldn't buy him nasty designer label tat though.

Overall I'd live much the same as I do now but with a greater degree of comfort and security.
