I'd jack in work right away, who needs the stress!? Then when I am at the health farm for a few months a project manager will be renovating a lovely detached house with large secluded garden in Brighton for me to move into. And I'd fill it with antique - or future antique - furniture (none of the money wasting cheap stuff which I have to put up with now). To fill my days I'd up my voluntary work, do regular yoga, look after my kitcats, potter in the garden/shed/kitchen, do regular exercise and get more seriously into my photography. I would hire a housekeeper/cook to help with my meal planning and cooking/cleaning, and I'd shop organic for what can't be grown in the garden. I'm planning on starting a degree next year (when I am 40, oh gawd) and would want to proceed with that. The thought of not having to worry about money would be a dream come true, but there are other worthwhile things to aim for which are within my grasp either with or without a big windfall but only if I make the effort.

I feel that way too. I like the more "tradional" lifestyle.

I wouldn't want a housekeeper or anything like that  I'd spend too long running around making sure everything was up to scratch *before* their duties begain each day!

Buy a farmhouse, with an Aga. Not worry about pensions; not worry about Uni fee's for my boys.
(I'm not particularly materialistic so I'm really struggling here!!! LOL )

I used to be terribly materialistic - I think it's an age-thing. Image and making a statement seems to be something that the young 'uns simply have to do. I grew out of my materialism around about 40.

I've often dreamt of winning the lottery but came to the conclusion that I don't want or need a huge win. A million would probably generate enough interest/income for me to live exactly how I'd to, for the rest of my life. If I won a million, I'd simply stay here, but buy the 8 acres of pasture/woodland at the back of my house. I'd be able to afford not to work, though, and that's enough for me. I'd grow even more vegetables, make even more preserves and probably get more dogs (working dogs - another Springer and a couple of retrievers).

If I won £5m? Gosh! dunno really. I may be tempted to buy a small farm, just for the hell of it. There's no money in farming, but I'd love to work the land.

Off to buy an online ticket now!
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)

First thing - pay off the mortgage. Then I would travel, possibly buy a house on mainland UK and hopefully one abroad - no decisions as to where yet, I would need to spend some time away going to different places to decide :) Nothing fancy, I don't want a mansion - just think of the upkeep - yikes!

    Would buy a green car.

Would spend a lot more time pampering me and the family and a lot less on work. I can't see me giving up work entirely but would try to find something that I really enjoy doing so it doesn't feel like work - maybe voluntary.

My family reckont if we win lotto they aren't going to let me know. Why? cos I would hate to win that amount and have promised everybody I would give them a share in it. So when I come home from work one day and find no-one here I know why. I would rather win a smaller amount and kick my heels up. People down the road won $8million a few years ago and they have just wasted it big time. I don't think it's brought them much joy really. Except for the material stuff.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)

    I'd
    • see both lots of family "right"
    • pay off our £11,000 worth of debts (that does include £4k+ of student loans belonging to OH)
    • buy a house in the town where my OH works (They start at £65,000 for a "in need of upgrading" but mainly £100,000+) so we no longer had to rent and overhaul it to our needs including building a walk in pantry, seperate laundry room (with tumble drier :j and dishwasher :j), standalone fridge, freezer and a large chest freezer, a seperate office with built in units and broadband.
    • invest £3k in ISAs for both me and OH, max out DD's savings account (£5k) and buy some premium bonds
    • buy a new car for OH
    • learn to drive then buy myself a car
    • Then MAYBE, just maybe me and OH might get married and actually pay for his extended family to stay in a hotel so we can get married where we want to and not just somewhere that is convienient for accomodation reasons! But the wedding still wouldn't be fancy, I'm constantly threatening that we'll get married in a registry office in jeans and t-shirt :D:rotfl:They still think I'm joking ;)
I wouldn't change much of our lifestyle though except actually not lay awake at night worrying about money and maybe treating ourselves to a full board fortnight in Disneyland Florida, bring DD home to her grandparents and then on to Paris and Zurich for a week each for just OH and me ;) I love the oldstyle way of living too much to give it up completely even if I am only 26 !
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!

I'd (as with most others here) would make sure that everyone I knew was alright.
Buy properties in Thailand, Turkey and Spain (probably leaving change from £150,000) and make them as I would like to live in.
Sell my flat in London and buy a house (ideally with a separate basement flat that we could live in) and rent out the rest.
Start up a couple of small businesses, probably bars in Thailand and Turkey.
    Make and save more money!
Why do the rich (and some poor) people pay more for less?

I could make it better myself at home. All I need is a small aubergine...

I moved to Liverpool for a better life.
And goodness, it's turned out to be better and busier!

After paying off the mortgage I'd ditch the pretence that it's old style to only be a one car family:o & splash out on something ecnomically sound & as ecologically friendly as possible, but still not new as what's the point in losing 50% of the value as soon as you drive it off the forecourt?

Hubby would want to set himself up in business as an a wildlife guide in the UK & so what if it doesn't turn a profit as he'd be blissfully happy! :j If this meant we'd need to move to somewhere a bit bigger I'd look for outside space to be able to keep a couple of chickens.

I still wouldn't have a mobile phone as I don't think I'd change my mind about wanting to be contacted when I'm out:confused:

We'd go on holiday more but I'd still serach out the best deals and bargains for our trips, I don't think we'd want to upgrade the standard of our holidays as there's only one class in the middle of the rain forest or jungle if you are doing it right:D

The biggest change we'd make would be to sign Spud up to a local private school which we would never be able to afford otherwise:cool:
Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!

Buy a small holding in Wales. This is my life's dream and winning the lottery is the only way I'd ever get it. Trouble is I'm too tight to spend money on the tickets :D

Then I'd pay off the mortgage on this house and hand it over to my daughter, still keeping ownership as she's too feckless with money and would probably remortgage and lose it within a year.

I love the car I have, it's reliable and spacious, so I wouldn't get rid of it but I'd probably invest in a Range Rover for Welsh winters.

Then anything that's left would be invested for mine and dh's futures.
