Question - you have a 5 million pound lottery win, so that's plenty to take care of your family, friends and charities etc, so you are now seriously well off. Which oldstyle ways do you hang on to and which do you drop like a stone?
For me I would keep up the homebaking because there is no such thing as nice bought scones or flapjacks, I would seek out bogofs etc for groceries but I would ditch Morrisons in favour of Marks and Spencer for food.

So what do you keep and what do you ditch?

I would still cook from scratch (in the main), but I would have a cleaner & a contract with a gardening service:D

We are starting a work syndicate & we all joked about "our dept" for "our area" ceasing to exist [strike]if[/strike] when we win.

My hubby told me how immoral he felt that was & that it would be disgusting for us to do this & we would have to continue for a couple/few months until replacements were in place:o :o:o

He right, we couldn't just bugger off:o

If there were redundancies in your company they would not say to you ah yeas your a whole department we will wait a few months till you all got jobs.
If you all want to pack up work then you should not as if there are nobody out there in need of a job. ;)

Exactly what two of my colleagues said;)
  • Ah - I'd buy a big 5 bed rural property (a bedroom each and a spare room) and have the heating on without rationing it (sorry!!) and plenty of land to grow lotsa veg and have loads of animals and even consider rescuing animals or starting a kennels. Would also donate to my fave animal charities.

Big friendly kitchen with range and huge table, and would have the money to have guests to stay all the time. Decent cars, decent clothes and WELLIES lol, all the finances sorted & my families money sorted too (I owe them some), kids trust funds fully bulked out, cash in ISA's, fair amount in other savings accounts, and then would start buying small areas of land with a view to selling at a profit in later years.

I would still bake and cook, but I might get a cleaner, freeing up loads of time to spend with the family. I would also have holidays and go to all the countries I can't afford to go to now.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Well I was old style when I had a lot more money than I do now as my husband lost his job last year and has started one paying half what he was earning. So for me old style is not just about saving money. I cook almost everything from scratch because I like cooking and I like to know what is going in my food - I don't use salt, very little sugar and obviously no additives or preservatives.

If I won the lottery I would pay off my parents and my brother and sister's mortgages. I would buy a house but only a modest 3 bedroomed. I would like a bit of land to grow veg and maybe keep chickens but would not want a house in the sticks as I do not drive and also have lived in the country I hated it. That would probably mean no chickens as the neighbours would probably complain! I would not want a big house because I don't see the point. More to keep clean, more to maintain, more chance of being burgled. No I will stick with a reasonably modest house thank you.

I would like to start an animal sanctuary but also try and do something for homeless people. I get so angry that people are homeless in this day and age so would like to provide some sort of accommodation for them (one that lets them take their dogs) and something nice - not flashy but not just basic.

I always say I would travel but I am not sure in reality if I would. Myself and hubby have a dog and we hate it when he goes in kennels so I guess travelling would be restricted to the UK and the odd week somewhere abroad.

No flashy cars for us either.

I would still cook and still clean for myself and probably buy loads in charity shops. Designer clothes are not my thing!

Would you still be as OS as you are now if you won the lottery?

I think I would as I love cooking, but I would spend on a cleaner to help around the house and get her whatever cleaning stuff she asked for :D

ahhh Yes, I would def do more travelling :D
  • Well I wouldn't waste, but I would definitely have a cleaner, and someone to iron for me. I hate both those jobs and it takes all my will power to motivate myself to do them, sometimes I can't believe that I need to do it all over again the next day. Hate it. But some people love it, and some people don't mind or enjoy doing it for a living, so why shouldn't I aid the economy and spread some of my good luck by paying someone else to do the things I hate? Oops, I almost thought it was real there! :rotfl: Back to the OP. Yes, I'd still be OS, I would spend the time which would usually be spent cleaning, seeing to my garden, and sewing and reading recipes. :D

Have to agree with you, would still do the cooking, don't think I could have anyone else in my kitchen. Although I could do with somone to do me a nice fruit salad for breakfast.

    BUT would have a cleaner.

Actually I would still do the ironing, but would like someone to put it away for me :rotfl:

No, I don't suppose I would be as I'd probably want to do loads of travelling! There's so many places I'd love to see if only we had the cash! I'd like to think I'd still not want to waste anything, but I'm sure it would make me less conscious of the need to , if you see what I mean.
    Resolution:
    Think twice before spending anything!
  • Yes, defo. I've been 'doing' OS for couple of years now and it has become who I am. I have found that I really enjoy doing all things OS, and if I have spare time and money, I'd rather do something OS and bank the money than go shopping.

oh how things change from my old chanel-darling self.
