Not really. I love cooking from scratch and making things so that wouldn't change. I would how ever buy from local farmer's markets, the local butcher and if not there buy more organic and free range.

  • The sense of security would be wonderful.

This would be the main thing, I think. Can't really imagine how that would feel :o

It's odd, when our circumstances first changed, I really resented 'having' to be OS to make ends meet. But now I'm so much more content because of it, even now things are financially better. I love cooking from scratch, not being wasteful, just generally opting out of the whole consumerist thing. I can't imagine going back.

Saying that, the only frivolous thing I'd do would be to buy a horse. Nothing flashy or posh, just a reliable, hardy sort! I'd truly love to have a horse again one day :)

For the most part it would be not having to be beholden in going to work and having the time to spend doing stuff that I want to do.

We would probably move to a bigger house with allot more acreage so that I can give my horses more fields to graze in and for us to walk the dogs. Most notably they would get a seriously good upgrade to American style stabling and I could also have a menage as well. The current Land Rover Discovery 3 would be upgraded to a new 4.

For us though, I think there would always be the bargain element to me, it's something thats always been there and I am so set in my ways on that I wouldn't change.

I would probably shop allot more for my clothes at John Lewis and buy my food at Waitrose interspersed with Sainsburys. For me personally though I would make sure that we had a significant cushion of money behind us to carry us through for the rest of our lives and I would really want to see that money work and grow. When you have hard times you appreciate the good and all my clothes are bought in sale times, so I am pretty certain that wouldn't change too much of that. In the main, it would allow us to move to Northumberland and probably a fairly remote area away from the noise and the maddening crowds. Sometimes, you can buy peace of mind and that is what it would afford us!

I'd keep most of my OS ways, but I would employ a local cleaning company as I am a terrible housewife. and 'cos it's run by two of my friends and it'd be nice to help them out too lol!

if we bought a house, it'd probably have a mortgage so hubby would continue to work i think (unless it was lots of windfall moneys!), but i would prefer to own a house than a flashy car or have far off holidays.

I resent waste and wouldn't change this feeling if I had money.

I'd look at buying a house too. in this area so minime gets to keep her school and I get to keep my social network. oh, and I'd fork out for one of the ex council garage lock-up things nearby for hubby to potter and get happily greasy in!

I'd still do a lot of sewing and my own gardening as I love both of them.

I'd probably continue to use the dreadit card the same way I do now, buy some small stuff each month and pay off in full to keep up a good credit rating.... but I would love to have one item of clothing from monsoon. just one. a pretty dress or something.
  • I would move house to be in a rural area with more land so i could have chickens and the dogs and all our other pets could have plenty of space to roam but just a 3 bed place nothing exotic and i would change my car but only because my car is ancient, unreliable and uneconomical so id want something cheap and economical to run. Other than that no, id keep everything the way it is.
Everything is always better after a cup of tea

I would pay off the mortgage, update the banger of a car we have at the mo and shop more ethically but for the main part I would be the same as I hate all the waste I see in families that dont live at all old style.
The best bargains are priceless!!!!!!!!!! :T :T :T

    NO.

In fact - I would be free to be more O.S. than ever - as I would have given up my job:D

Time is a very constraining factor when one has to do a full-time job to earn a living and it would "set me free" to do a heck of a sight more OS style living if I had a suitable size windfall...

I'm wary of living in the countryside (as I would like) for two reasons:
    - one of them is to do with the fact that I'm aware its dearer to do so (ie because of transport costs/the fact that the central heating is probably run on a dear fuel like oil/etc) and one to do with societal factors of the last few years that are affecting people living outside larger urban areas (but I am keeping my eye on to see if that potential "rural area risk" is dealt with or no - in order to be freer to live where I wanted without worrying whether said risk would crop up and affect the area I lived in...).

If I had a decent size windfall - I could afford the extra costs of living in the countryside and to take the risk that I might get forced into selling my property quickly for a lot less than it was worth and "move on elsewhere" if the concern I would have on that materialised..

So - bring on the windfall - and I would be glad of being able to be more OS:D
