OOH, I don't think we would change that much.
Number one would probably be move to a detached house...not bigger just no neighbour worries, that would be our forever house.
Shop organic and local like everyone else has said and also be able to try all the lovely recipes with more expensive ingredients I'd love to try but often don't atm.
Most of all we'd love a dog and a little motorhome/van (nothing fancy) to spend time pootling round the UK and Europe together. Hopefully we will acheive this in the end anyway if we carry on being careful, but it'd be nice to get it sooner:DGrocery challenge October: £228.28/£250.00 NSD 4 ( not completed)

some things would change. I WOULD employ a cleaner.....because I think employment, and fair empolyment, is a really good way to transfer wealth. Being a good employer also forces up standards for other workers. In that vein I'd also have a gardener and a driver, and if I could afford it a masseur!
things we've discussed ois that dh would keep his job, but go part time and would start a new business that he'd be interested in, and I would expand my micro business.
But I'd still cook from scratch, I enjoy it. We wouldn't want to be wasteful, so things like home economy and keeping heating bills low and using things well would be optimised.0 -
I think it's interesting to consider what you would do now if your came into this windfall, and what your opinion would have been a few years ago when circumstances might have been different.
I would have entertained lavishly, flown business class and been a general pain in the ..... Now it is more about peace of mind and being able to enjoy the thrill of fairly simple pleasures like baking bread, growing ones own, recycling and reusing without the knowledge that this was the only way to live without going under.
I hope we would all given a windfall, part with some sort of tithe for the less fortunate.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Dead right - "peace of mind" would be the single best thing one could buy if a windfall materialised.
I would personally enjoy/find a renewed "sense of purpose" in giving away the excess money if a windfall was that big that I was left with surplus money. I'll admit that I'd be on a "high" for quite some time knowing I had given away surplus to worthy "causes" of my choice - knowing that a lot of people would keep the money for themselves.
That sounds awful in some ways - but I WOULD thoroughly enjoy "doing the right thing" partly because I know so many wouldnt...:cool:0 -

For me a huge part of the right thing would be enpowering people, and providing good, standard setting employment and facility...teaching a man to fish 'n' all that. DH and I have also said, if we are talking millions and millions, or billoions(how big is this windfall) that a research and education foundation would be a must for us.

Assuming that the windfall is just enough to pay off the mortgage, I'll be happy to not have to watch the pennies too often and happy not to have to pay someone interest on the mortgage. I'll probably won't change my lifestyle that much, since I am boring, but it is nice to be able to order take-out when I am lazy to cook, instead of fretting how it will affect the food budget.
If we are talking millions, I'll help my siblings pay off their mortgages and give my folks a nice sum of money so they can enjoy their retirement. I'll probably keep some tucked away for my own retirement and then use the rest to help others, be it through employment or charity. I would prefer to be hands-on with how I redistribute the wealth, rather than just donate it to charities and have no idea how they use it.
As I once told someone, it is hard to spend like a rich person unless you were born into a rich family. Habits are hard to break!0 -
I would definatley change my ways:
I would take things for dry cleaning when I should
I would pay a cleaner, gardener, ironing person.
I would have my hair cut when it needed it, not when I could afford it.
I would put breadcrumbs out for the birds instead of freezing them! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
To pay off the debts and mortgage would be brilliant! I'd love to work part time, which I do now, but I end up having to do loads of extras as we need the extra cash.
I'd buy me a new car, I've never really had a nice car.
We would certainly eat alot more meat and decent stuff too. It would be nice to need something and just go out and buy it without having to save up. I'd also love to have more takeaways/pub dinners and treat my DD to more days out.
My actual ways wouldn't change though as I have been brought up this way and I can't see it changing, I certainly don't like waste. I like being money saving, it makes me feel good that I have got something for less or made something stretch or grew something etc etc:)0 -
I think it is great fun to save as much as possible whenever possible.. I found those who have the most money are definitely a lot tighter with their budgets than us paupers... we tend to be more generous and definitely more of a mind to share the good fortune/wealth with those we hold dear.
I love the thrill of the bargain.. so I would still be as tight as nuns knicker elastic!
I would clear the bank loan and a chunk of the mortgage though..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I would pay off debts, get a new dishwasher and washing machine, work 4 days a week instead of 5, buy new trainers and....
go food shopping in M&S ..... every month!!!
But I'd still cook and would bake more bread and still charity shop for clothes etc.
And yes I would book a holiday too.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0
