MSE News: Halifax ditches £5 monthly reward for Clarity customers

Oh well, it was good while it lasted.
Can understand it wasn't viable to continue - I just ensured I hit the £300 threshold on general spending, then banked the fiver from the Clarity card, the fiver from the Reward account, and put any other household spending on the AMEX Platinum Cashback card. Halifax never earned a penny off me other than merchant transaction fees.
Tempted by one of those Virgin money transfer offers once this finishes in September, but not sure what limit they'll provide.0 -
Removing the £5 bonus for longstanding customers first is a slap in the face. I'll keep the card, but will not spend on it unless there's a cashback offer or saving on foreign exchange fees that I can't get elsewhere. Will probably open a Nationwide select card which offers cashback, 12 months 0%, and fee free foreign purchases, although not ATM withdrawals.0

True, but you still get the 12 months 0%, so Nationwide will be better in the short-time despite the slightly worse wholesale exchange rates from VISA. Also almost £30 cashback for applying for the card via Topcashback.0 -

Was going to cancel my card after September due to this, but if the everyday offers are staying, I may keep it in case something I would use comes up on there.0

Same here. I use it for overseas transactions (so I will keep it for that) and the few places I shop at that don't take Amex, but then each month I'd see if I needed to route more household spending through Halifax to hit the £300 rather than maximising Amex. Once the £5 disappears it'll only be used overseas and if places absolutely can't take Amex.0 -
Shame- it was good while it lasted. My notification letter arrived today.I always spent the £300 + a bit and then moved on to Tesco CC (which also reduced its perks!!)
Now rethinking!
I use it a lot abroad so would not want to cancel it.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
