Just wondered i have a Samsung smart tv, I can u install apps apart from bbci itv c4 and 5ondemand, but honestly I don't watch bbci, all I watch is c4 for 8 out of 10 cats does countdown, will I need to buy a license.
Thanks0 -
You only need a Licence if you actually watch/record TV broadcasts and from today, use iPlayer.
If you do none of that, you do not need a Licence.
I would suggest that if you cannot remove the iPlayer app from your TV, and you wish to remain without a TV Licence that you block iPlayer on your router.
The URLs to try are:-
ibl.api.bbci.co.uk, mybbc.files.bbci.co.uk, emp.bbci.co.uk and component.iplayer.api.bbc.co.uk
I would just add all of them and see whether it works.0 -
Ring! Ring! Ring! Ring!
"Hello?"
"Hi Bob its Visionman."
"Hey Visionman! Long time no see. We should get together sometime."
"Yeah, how about tonight?"
"Love too! Lots to tell you about!"
"Well, thats not why I want to come round.... I want to come round to yours because you have a TV Licence and I want to download loads of content off the BBC iPlayer."
"Ha Ha Ha! Funny! Errrm, are you taking the ****?"
"No, I mean it."
"Oh my god, ******g weirdo."

You just don't know Bob like I do...
"Hi Bob!"
"Hi Cornucopia, glad you could come round"
"No problem"
"How are you?"
"Good thanks, and you? How's Ermintrude? Tarquin and Tracey?"
"They're fine. Want a beer?"
"Great. Can I just hop on your wifi whilst you're doing that? The OH is bugging me to watch that BBC thing about the Latvian Disabled Pottery School and I still think it's daft getting a Licence for one program".
"Yeah, no problem, happy to help, and it's costing me nowt".0 -
Wondering if someone can clear this query up that I have?
If I currently have a TV licence for my main home, can I use this single licence when I stay in my holiday home where I have no TV, but have internet, so would like to stream/download BBC TV on my laptop? Would I be breaking the law currently if I do so or would my current licence suffice?0 -
This is the relevant section from the TVL website:
http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one/for-your-home/second-home-aud8
If your holiday home is an actual House or Flat, then you need a Licence, but only if you plan to operate your Laptop/Tablet from mains power.
If your holiday home is a static caravan, mobile home or moveable chalet, then you don't need a second Licence as long as TV is not being watched/recorded in both places at the same time.0 -

No, I don't think you do...
65m people live in the UK and 96% of them pay the TV licence. Great campaign.0 -

You represent 4% of the population. Niche. And even fewer of them will circumnavigate the law to watch the iPlayer, as most of them don't anyway. The rest will just break it.0

It's not really about the numbers. Though I have to say that polls regularly put the proportion of the Public who would like to see the back of the Licence Fee as around 50-65%.
However small the number of people we might be, each of us individually needs to be treated with respect by the authorities, and that's not happening at the moment. For me, the minutae of what requires a Licence, and whether the BBC is VFM or not are on the far side of that. Or in other words, that needs fixing first before I decide whether to pay for the BBC or not.0
