  • Bobarella, I have fully caught up. How far you have come is amazing, to be turning a small profit so quickly -wow! I tried to start my own business a few years ago, I wasn't cut out for it, and I hold people who can do it in the highest regard, appreciating what hard work it is.

I don't know if it's your influence because this doesn't normally happen to me but I found 2p today! I was actually thinking of you and was grinning when I picked it up :D

    Fingers crossed for today's enquiry:T

Nasty colds all over the place here too ATM, so sympathise with your DD. Mine comes and goes, I feel like I am permanently either bunged up or running like a tap.

Thanks Boxofpaws to be honest, I think they make it so hard for people to have a business these days that it may not be you are not cut out for it, but the environment you were trying to operate in wasn't right.
    Well done on your finds!!

I was about to say bless you Drawingaline, but realised how inappropriate that is to say to a family of cold sufferers :rotfl:

I love the idea of starting my own business, but I don't have any natural talents. I also work full time, with two young children so I don't have the time at the moment. Maybe in a few years.

I think more and more people will start up their own businesses in the future, as that's the way the workforce seems to be going.

Bob well done on 'closing the deal' with your clients.

    Hi Chanie

One thing to consider if you are really keen on doing your own thing would be consultancy within your field of expertise. That's what I was planning to do at one point. My specialism was Marketing. And if you look into what people are prepared to pay for an hour's advice it's pretty good. Just a suggestion.

Thank you as well, I actually haven't had the go ahead on the filming work yet. But it would be amazing if it does come off. And hopefully pave the way for more work of its kind.

Hope the film enquiry comes to fruition Bob - that would be fantastic :) x

Definitely agree that consultancy can pay good money - OH is a consultant - but on a short term contract basis on a day rate. A six month contract easily sees us financially fit for the year, meaning he doesn't need to work all the time. However, the option to pick and choose work isn't there as such - he was without a contract for 11.5 months this time - which starts getting a bit squeakier - part of the issue is recruiters and employers don't seem to understand why he doesn't want to work all year round (who would, given the chance :D) - so any gap is often seen as 'bad'. Overall, though, we are financially better off (some) and much better off time-wise with consultancy based work, rather than a regular full time role. You have to trust a role will come along though - it has taken OH a while to not chase roles out of a sense of desperation and now that we are MF it does help with financial security. There are ups and downs....
