    Hello All

I have a sleeping baby on me and am hoping for an early night myself. Still have the cold, and the main symptom seems real weariness today. But the sore throat has improved. So early to bed for me I hope. We went shopping this morning and got the turkey. A frozen one. The price difference is whopping. We bought a bird to feed 8 to10 people (OH is a turkey nut) for £16. There will only be the four of us, but as anyone else who is OS will know, there needn't be any waste so it's a great deal. Some of the fresh turkeys were double that. Crazy!
We also bought a gammon joint so I can do a ham too. Loads of meat :)

Used an 800 points coupon for buying some pyjamas for my son and two cotton tops for me, so a nice bonus. And a triple points coupon.

Bought 8 pork sausages instead of sausage meat. Gram for gram it is cheaper to simply cut the sausages out of their skins and reclaim the sausage meat that way. That's how I usually make my home made sausage rolls too.

Other good bits from today, had an email to say my new business banking pack is on its way out. And our First Direct account just needs the letter signed and returned. So we will be starting 2017 with a new joint account and a new fee free (for 25 months) business account. Both those things are very cheery.

I found a £1 in the road near the posh restaurant on my way to school. I often have a glance along the road edges where there is pay and display parking :)

My son spotted 3p on the way home too.

Oh and used DHs oyster to travel on the school run as he was WFH, so the daily cap meant my travel was free.

We had sausage and mash for tea. I reheated some peas and sprouts cooked the other day, they were fine.

    Anyway that's me I think :)

  • That's a lovely MSE Christmas food shop bob. And thanks for the sausage meat tip! I'd never thought of comparing it price-wise with sausages. :T

Hope you managed to get your early night and the cold fades away.......

    Morning All

I knew I'd jinxed myself with hoping for an early night. The moment I got downstairs from putting my daughter down I found frantic messages from the current tenant about an energy issue that was likely to stop play completely. After a few tense calls we were able to establish it was an outside issue and nothing that we could do but wait. My heart was pounding and my temperature went up about fifty degrees thinking I was about to be on the end of an insurance claim (again!!) But amazingly the issue was resolved about 10 mins later. Texts from the agency in question confirmed they'd fixed it by midnight but thankfully it didn't affect my place up to that point.

God.....today DS has again claimed illness. As I am feeling ropey and he was saying the same symptom wise it is plausible. So he's starting his holidays a day early. As DH is home working, it's a full house.

Have got me and DD up for the day and made MORE coffee, as my night was pretty shocking from a teething baby POV.

Hoping to get the Christmas cake marzipaned today.

Thanks SG by the way. There are loads of examples like that in the supermarket where you feel like you should buy X product but actually it's just Y product repackaged.

    Have a good day all.

  • Poor you bob! I do hope you're on the mend and DS has not been too poorly. Glad the tenant was sorted out ok and here's to you finally having a peaceful night tonight!

    Thanks again SG :)

So far today no dramas. The paperwork has arrived for my new business account so will aim to get these signed tommorow. Nothing from First Direct yet but guessing the weight of post at this time of year slows it right down. They've said everything is fine and just a matter of signing and sending back now.

Have cooked the Christmas ham today, it's a beast.

Tommorow a friend is having us over for an early xmas meal as they are traveling over the holidays so we won't see them at all.

My Auntie sent £10 to share between the children, but I'm taking the executive decision to buy a game of jenga instead of sweets as she suggested. They have a set for £10.99 in TRU at the moment.

I have also managed to find a cheaper by £13 main present for my son so holding my nerve to order that in time! Takes the cost from £138 to £125

I laughed today as my teachings must have sunk in. At the supermarket DS was telling me that his beloved frozen raspberries are cheaper per gram frozen than fresh. He knows the gram value for a bag vs a punnet which is brilliant MS in my opinion.

Glad the energy issue was external rather than internal and was sorted so quickly.

Boo to teething, yay to teething gel, and ice poles. I think my kids must have crunched their way through their own body weight in ice poles, and carrot sticks. One actually went orange. He was helping himself from the veg rack.

Great news DS is so MSE already. Mine can only work out the most amount of packets of crisps for their money.

Hooray for coffee! Keeping parents awake since, like, forever!

  • Oh no! I hope that you have a fit household soon.

Great tip about sausages! I never thought of it. You'll have to let us have more tips.

BTW I got paid within a week for that order, then they ordered £100 worth of stuff a month later and they took forever to pay!
