still catching up, would not an oyster card or similar cost less if you are using the bus so much, or are you talking about this when you say hopper fare?

I am reading from the beginning so sorry if this has been mentioned, but it is better to not put fingers down the throat if someone is choking as there is a danger you can push the food down further. What we were taught in ante natal classes is to hit the child firmly on the back between the shoulder blades to dislodge the food. Glad it was all sorted. Will now go back to reading.

Wow thank you so much for taking the time to tell me that! Really kind. Thank goodness it has never reoccurred but I will be better informed now.:A

Hi Chev. Thanks again! Really nice of you to give me so much feedback.

So yes, I have an oyster card which I top up with credit when needed. Back in September I think it was? The mayor brought in the hopper fare scheme. At present that means that for each journey you take, the second made in the same hour is free. There is still a daily cap on fees too. Which I think is about £6 on buses.
I walk a lot each day and sometimes I manage to do without the buses until when I pick my son up and then we take two buses home. So travel can be as little as £1.50 per day.

Ever thought about writing a cookbook on using up leftovers bob? You always seem to make some tasty concoctions! Could be a MSE bestseller!

SG what a lovely thing to say! I am thrilled you think so. I am a bit bish bash bosh with my cooking, have never thought of writing it down. My old chef wrote a cookbook which was fab. :T

    Evening All

Late update today but haven't been home long.

Spent this morning settling the new client into the venue. Walked over there with the little one for about 10, then left at 1. We went to the playground but it was so wet still from the heavy rain that she got soaked through and I had to do a full strip change down to the nappy to warm her up again. After that she napped around 2. I nipped to Mr S as we had nothing in. Bought some easy options for dinner and after school snacks.
Spent 20 minutes using my tablet in the library before heading on for the school run.
Got everyone home then sorted tea for the children. Once OH was home I then left for the evening do at the business. Cycled over, stayed an hour, then cycled home. Just watched the end of Rillington Place, chilling programme.

Not really a Frugal day as groceries needed buying.

OH can work from home for the rest of the week so that's roughly a £30 saving which is good :)

    Have a good night

    Morning All

I have a cold. Which for me always means a hideous sore throat. I am up and about of course, no choice with kids is there! But not at deaths door. Powering through on coffee and cold and flu.

Due to the train strikes OH is WFH for the rest of the week so he's been and done the school run and come back. In the meantime I've done the morning whirlround, made the beds, put the washing on, brought the breakfast stuff down, taken out the recycling and moved any washing that was dry, off the radiators. Have got a pot of stock on which smells lovely. Will do a veg soup for lunch as there are cooked potatoes, peas and sprouts kicking around still.
I was cross the other day as there was some fish left at an event after the clients had gone. I didn't know what it was but it had been in the fridge and was in a sealed bag. So I brought it home and cooked it. But it never seemed right despite cooking for about 45 mins (loads for fish right!) & had an odd almost squid like consistency. So after trying a bite and discovering it tasted bitter I binned it. Waste of gas that was! And I hate to bin food but I'm not going to eat something bad.

I am in two minds today, first I am pleased because it's the 14th of the month, which for us is normally getting into the seriously worrying run out of money bit, with still 10 days to go till more money comes in. But there is still a little cash left in our current account and I haven't yet moved a penny across from the business. So that's the good bit.

The nerve wracking bit is I am due £850 before the end of this week (Sunday) the first part of that is needed. I have my rent to pay tommorow, the last for 2 months!!! But I need around £300 of that £850 to make that payment. The person knows they need to pay me, and has verbally even said that, oh yes I've still got to pay you haven't I. But whether they will in time or not is another matter. The remainder of the money is not due till Sunday.
Next week I have a further £350 (definite) possibly £550, to come in before Christmas Eve.

So as I mentioned upstream, I am actually fine for money this month, but I still have to herd my cats towards the bank account....

If I don't get the money in time I'm going to email my landlord and explain. He's fairly laid back, and I can show him proof if he wants it that it's money I have earned already. Thank goodness this 'should' be the last month I have to operate this way.

Before anyone suggests it, I take deposits from all bookings now. But it's harder to enforce a payment date once someone is actually using your facilities. So soft voice big stick has to be the way forwards. Haven't had to resort to the stick yet thankfully ;)

Rest of today, plan to make a cameo at the business, & other than that it's Frugal all the way.

    Bob

Bob, I did chuckle about the fish, when you work so hard to make the most of every morsel of food, I bet that really annoyed you. You know it would me!
I hope the payments comes in for you today :)

  • Bob, what's the area postcode of your venue? It might be of interest to me for work.

Sounds like you got it right with the fish. Such a shame that it was wasted though.
