Don't use eBay Drop Off at Argos. They cost me £56.

  • What i find funny about some ebay buyers, is when they send you a where's my parcel email, yet when they ordered the item they chose a non traceable shipping service, instead of paying a little extra so they could track it.
How do they expect me to know where it is?

Hang on let me just check the back of my trousers, oh yeah there it is Duh!

Traceable shipping services are purely for the benefit of the sellers. As a buyer I will not be paying any extra for one.

That is fair enough, but I believe if a buyer is offered this at checkout and decides not use such shipping method, then they do so at there own risk and should forfeit any claims for non delivery.

I know you will say scammers would take advantage of this, but that is where we should rely on ebay to punish such offenders.

With all distance selling in the UK it is the seller's responsibility to deliver to the customer. If a customer says something has not arrived you have to refund or replace unless you can prove delivery. Tracked or signed for gives you this proof but at a cost. A seller can choose to spend more if they wish.

Some customers may choose a more expensive service because they want something quickly but most customers pay for the cheapest service offered - and why not?

The seller should not have to refund the buyer if the buyer knowingly chose a shipping method that is untraceable especially as they were given the choice at checkout of a more secure shipping method,
by allowing sellers to use such untraceable shipping methods then any claims should be fulfilled by ebay and not the seller, otherwise ebay should force sellers to only be allowed to send items out by traceable forms of shipping.

I really can not understand sellers who sell something for £50. The buyer does not pay for a trackable method or Royal Mail Signed For. So they send it as a untracked parcel. The buyer claims non delivery. The seller gets all upset that they have lost £50 because the buyer refused to pay extra for signed for or tracked mail.

Also can you just imagine for a second, buying something from Amazon, Argos, Tesco etc... and when the item doesn't turn up, being told "Tough luck, you should have paid extra for tracked mail".

Thankfully legislation means the buyer is always protected. Fortunately Ebay and Paypal see it the same way. No proof of delivery = refund for buyer.

You do realise Ebay are only a platform on which to sell, they don't sell anything themselves.

One (of many reasons) is that sellers can just say they sent the item and not bother. In your world that would just be hard cheese for the buyer and customers would not bother shopping online.

The buyer doesn't "allow" the seller to use "untraceable shipping methods" the seller chooses to.

The shipping options are generally for expedited options, so instead of 4-5 days the buyer can choose next day. Tracking shouldn't be the issue, that's the seller's responsibility, always.

This would only be for ebay.

The same can be said for buyers, they choose untraceable, get the item, and make a claim against the seller for non delivery knowing that ebay will side with them.

The ebay system is unbalanced and all I am trying to suggest is a way to make it more fair.
