I had a total hysterectomy at 47 so went straight into menopause which meant my periods stopped. That was it, oh hang on my migraines pretty well stopped overnight. So all good.
Although periods stop after a hysterectomy this doesn't mean the ovaries are so it doesn't automatically mean menopause.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Think this thread must be proving a useful one by now - we're certainly accummulating a useful body of knowledge as to what to expect etc by now:T
A useful thought Hester made on another thread was that her experience (ie of getting the hairs on chin scenario) costs £600 for a course of treatment (if using electrolysis to remove them) and the odd follow-up visit afterwards. Useful to know for the poster that is worried they might get chin hairs.
I sympathise Hester re getting those hairs - as I know it was something I was worried about getting but was fortunate enough not to get them (apart from that solo stray one). I was already thinking "Now where is that money going to come from?" if I had had them.....0 -
On the bright side I haven't lost any hair on my head, a friend of mine has seriously thinning hair and is considering buying a wig.
Nothing to do with the menopause but living on low wages in an expensive area, not paying for electrolysis goes along with other things forced upon us, when I broke a tooth I didn't have it crowned (£300 - £500) I had it taken out for £75. Haircuts for me at the local cheap haircut place £9, I cut hubby's hair etc.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Hester if the local college teach Beauty Therapy, it may be worth asking if they cover Electrolysis at part of the course, if so, they may offer sessions to customers at a reasonable price."When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us" Alexander Graham Bell0

Oh Hester, ther is no way I would pay that ammount of money. It makes me so mad that people that want a sex change, somehow get it on NHS for mental health problems.
Please don't grow a beard, I don't know how to insert images on this site so-https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/4f/d1/80/4fd180f4aed83eb26bc1c6ea7c983e3b.jpg.
lillibet Sorry to read about that. At least it is not weak bladder problems, I think they must be worse.
A thought! Do men get hot flushes? I think my hubby does. I sleep with just a sheet, he throws his quilt over me in the night, when he gets overheated. I wake up with a double hot flush.

It does if your ovaries are taken as well. Mine were, that was what I meant by total hysterectomy, I don't know if there is a correct medical term for it.Sell £1500

Hester my mum used to have little paper pad things that you used a bit like sandpaper to remove hairs - I can't remember the proper name but someone else will I expect - might they be useful?
Re hair on head, this year is my 25 year of dyeing my hair and its trashed (I do it at home with a packet). I've decided to stop now and just pour a strong jug of chamomile tea over it a couple of times a week. I have hair down past my shoulders so it will take a while to see it completely grown out, but I'm done with chemicals!
Tips - my husband does that to me with the duvet, drives me up the wall!!0 -
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll ring the college and ask Big Jenny.
Dandy I remember those, but I think it would take off the skin and leave the hair, that is what Nair does.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
HuH if the hair is still dark, try laser removal. Much cheaper and effective. Then go after the little b's still left with electrolysis a couple of times and you should get the lot done quite cheaply. Very few places offer electro these days, and I don't think many colleges even teach it.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14
